So, I was thinking... I already have the 6230.. and I have insurance.... if my phone should break or get lost, my insurance will cover the replacement phone... however, does anyone have an idea if it would be replaced with the 6230, 6230i, or suprisingly, another phone altogether????

😳 Intentionally breaking your 6230 would probably not be constituted as the most moral thing to do. 😈

Ok, but what about those of us who may have an already faulty 6230 (as told by a CSR) and are already on their second one? Does that count for anything? I am of course assuming this breaks no moral grounds.

Thats what I meant... OBVIOUSLY I am not going to break it on purpose... knowing me, even if I tried, it prob wouldn't break lol... and if I lost it intentionally, I would prob find it on my car seat or something 🙂

Anyhow, does anyone know the answer to my inital question lol ?

The insurance company would replace your phone with something comparable in features. Right now the 6230i isnt out but im assuming that if in the future u do lose/break your phone that they could possible if they dont have any 6230s available send you out a 6230i.

Well - we have the crappiest ATT Samsung phone EVER .. and it ws replaced by the exact same model - in this case the DREADFUL SGH-X426 .... supposedly you can ater 3 trys get an insurance replacement phone of "similiar" features ... but until then you get the same EXACT MODEL back. the 426 was only produced 3 months, over a yr ago, and I got one as a replacement a month ago.

yeah, if you "break" it and try to make a claim, they're going to send you the same phone. Even though they might not carry it in the store anymore, the insurance company suppliers have stocks of them for people just like you. 😁 sorry to disappoint, but it really wouldn't be worth your time.

Actually, phone services like T-mobile, and once AT&T use insurance companies, (I think it's Asurion) that have separate warehouses which would ship you the same phone, but Cingular uses a different insurance company that allows you to simply go to the store and get a new phone. All you have to do is file a claim over the phone, and then go to any Cingular store to get a new phone. If they don't have the same model, they give you a comparable model. Since the 6230i is replacing the 6230, it would be a worthwhile assumption that it would be the comparable model.

posibly, but one of our current reps is a former Cingular rep and he said that Asurion is the same one they use and that they go through pretty much the same process. i've made a claim with Cingular before and had to have a phone shipped as well so i'm not sure about that.

It probably all depends on your market. As far as I know, cingular uses lock/line for all markets, thought I could be wrong. I made a claim less than a month ago on my V600 and was sent through the mail a V551. If you made a claim on a 6230 about a year or two after the 6230i came out, you'd probably get sent a 6230i, but I highly doubt before then.

🙂 yeah, that's probably a reasonable guess. i agree that it will be a while before they're going to send you a 6230i in place of the 6230. by then, the next "big thing" will already be on the market so what's the point really? i am still curious as to whether the 6230i is even going to be released here for Cingular. i'm still a bit confused about the PTT feature that is supposedly included. i can't see them (or anyone for that matter) coming out with a new phone with "dead" features. does anyone know for sure? i'd like to know before i upgrade my Cingular phone.

It's probably an "available feature" for carriers to request to be on the phone like GSM850 and others (see Rich's post on the V8 for more explanation on that). Look at the stats on the Z500...it says it has PTT but it ain't there! If Cingular wants PTT on this phone, it'll be there available, if not, it won't be there.

gotcha! i figured that would be about right, but i wasn't sure. i didn't know if i should upgrade my cingular phone now or wait til the 6230i was available. i had seen someone else post here that they didn't think the 6230i would be released, but i'm hopeful that it will be. i appreciate your input!

My pleasure. I'm one of the idiot customer service reps for Cingular...in all actuality I get more info from here, though some creative thought is required at times. I'm definitely waiting on replacing my V551 with this phone. I don't care if I have to wait a year, I will have this phone if it comes out for cingular (unless I make a million and then I'll get the sx66 😁 )
