I just lost my Nokia 6230, and I was thinking about getting this phone unlocked from myworldphone or gsmphoneplanet. Which site is better?

I've heard nothing but great things about this phone, but I wanted to know for sure if it would work well (reception-wise) in the bay area, northern california with Cingular. I think one of the reviews mentioned it worked fine with Cingular in California, but I wanted to know if anybody specifically knew about the bay area. I've never bought an unlocked phone before, so what do I have to do to get it working with my Cingular acct?

thanks.

If the bay area has uses only the 850MHz band, then this phone will not work. But, I think that Cingular is now using the AT&T towers in California, so you better hope that those towers are 1900MHz, which this phone has. Also, most areas of Cingular are 850MHz, and this phone will not pick up that band. There might be 1900MHz coverage on Cingular, but its not as big as their 850MHz. So, you should check to make sure that all the locations that you go to, have 1900MHz coverage, not just the 850MHz.

And, since the phone is unlocked you would just put the SIM card into the phone, and it should work. Then you would have to get the Cingular internet settings, as well as the messaging settings.

hrmm yeah. thanks.

that' what I'm trying to find out before I get the phone...if it doesn't work well in the bay area, then I guess I will just wait until October 15 to sign up for a new phone and plan.
