Question - for those who have the phone - about the camera

hey everyone, long time reader first time poster. pretty excited to be getting this phone, it seems really cool. i was always a nokia stick phone user but i want a flip now and i've considered motorola and sony but i have always liked nokia's quality. i hope it is available soon through cingular in california. former at+t user, not a big cingular fan but oh well.

got a question for the few of you that seem to have the phone already.

how does the zoom feature work on the VGA camera? i have heard that you can't zoom before you take a picture, only after. so does that mean it doesn't actually have true digital zoom, that you can only zoom once you've taken a shot? my girlfriend has a v551 and while it's not the best phone in the world, th...

No snake. At least not in this Asian version of the 6101 that I have.
You get:
-Canal Control
-Golf Tour
-Solitaire

Got my 6102 a couple weeks ago and it came with one full game: Canal Control(pretty fun actually); and 3 demos: Jewel Quest, Text Twist and Zuma, all of which pretty much stink.

I'm pretty much new to this (not games - just cell phone games) so don't know which are worth downloading. That would make a good thread.

True. You can't zoom b4 taking a pict or video. Zoom only works after a pict is taken. There's no zoom on video, b4 or after taken.

well that kinda sucks - my girlfriend's moto v551 has like a 3x digital zoom.

well i guess it won't matter that much anyway, i mean i have a good digital camera and it's like i will be using this as my main one. but it is kind of annoying.

also what is up with the FM tuner? i would much rather be able to load a few MP3s onto a phone and play them on the speaker when i am bored, than listen to all the commericals and garbage on the radio. And what happened to AM reception? what if I want to listen to a baseball game?

i wonder when anyone is going to make a really good phone that does it all and doesn't look cheesy or cost $800.

Nope - no zoom

I have a digital camera too - both still picts and a vid camera. I really don't want to have an all-in-one with me all the time.

i had the nokia 3360 TDMA phone before i left cingular for t-mobile. I loved the menus and stuff, very easy to use.

I came back to Cingular in December and got this crappy samsung e317 and the menus are not too difficult. The quality is horrible though, can barely hear people when you talk. Hopefully the nokia is better. I often find I go from full signal to no signal as soon as i connect on a call too.

you know it's a shame the new Samsung E720 probably won't be for Cingular (I think it's tri band only) because that looks like a nice phone. megapixel camera, email client, mp3 player... 80 MB of memory! nice looking clamshell.

Just FYI, "true digital zoom" is no better than zooming after taking a picture. I would never use digital zoom unless you can't get the images off the camera to edit (zoom/crp) them. Digital zoom results in a lower resolution image.

You might be thinking of optical zoom (true zoom).
