I guess 1 billion GSM users to about 300 million CDMA users doesn't mean anything? 🙄

nope, it doesn't...cuz CDMA is a far better protocol and the Verizon network is superior to Cingular's dispite there being more ppl with GSM...it's just older and more established around the world, doesn't make it better

Agreed. Number of subscribers doesn't indicated the better TECHNOLOGY, to which - I believe - bofis was originally referring.

As for bfedor78's numbers, they may be accurate worldwide. But in the US, the numbers are more like: Cingular - 51.4M; Verizon - 49.3M. And Verizon is closing fast.

But, to be fair - like others have indicated - better technology does not necessarily mean better service. For me, I almost always have service with Verizon - even where my Cingular subscribing friends do not. And in the U.S., that's what it comes down to...not GSM vs. CDMA, but more Cingular vs. Verizon (primarily).

Service is also something to consider. There have been se...

Nope, GSM sucks, thats why over 130 countrys use the network...

some poeple make me laugh...

CDMA is going to out dated soon and poeple still say it will be better...

Think about it. If ll of the CDMA carriers were GSM as well, there would be coverage of come form over 90% of the USA. and since GSM is Clearer, Quicker, and more easily to upgrade. it makes it the world FAVORITE network type... And since there are multiple bands, it makes it for Ideal areas. Like citys have their oen band here is US the citys have 850, meaning they have a more circle style radius and more poeple can be on one tower at a time.

and then for highway and country towers, USA uses 1800 (i think) meaning yes, they hold less people, but the signal can str...

i totally agree with jason there and also
USA is so far behind that Europe is bout to change away from GSM ...LoL
i would rather not talk on the phone at all then talk on the phone with so much static that i can't hear whats going on anyways
Cingular has been my carrier for years and i have sold for every other one out there
verizon yes is a good company but they don't move with technology like cingular is trying to do
atleast sprint nextel is doing something good by merging..
oh and one more thing
how secure is your CMDA line compared to my cingular one?

I have Verizon as a work phone and ATT/Cingular as a personal phone. I live in the Washington DC area and Verizon does not drop as often as Cingular (both have holes though).
Once I get out of the metro area, Cingular is better than Verizon. I frequently go to West Virginia and Cingular is much better. In addition, during a recent trip to Chicago, I always had a signal with Cingular but my friend with a Verizon phone often could nto get a signal.

The difference is more the area and the number of towers than anything else.

I dont believe that 300 million people use CDMA service. I think it is more like 75 million at the most.
