Why is Cingular dropping this phone?

I have read all about this phone and it seems to meet all of my needs. I just went to three local Cingular stores and they all said that Cingular was not "ordering" any more of the 6682's. They said that it wasn't discontinued, but they couldn't get me the phone. Why is Cingular dropping this phone?

If I buy it online with a contract, will the corporate stores give me customer support, or am I just on my own to deal with the online seller?

Also, Cingular offers a 15% discount to state teachers in Ohio, can I get that discount online or will the local stores be able to give me that after I get the phone and contract online?

Finally, if I can't get this phone does anyone know of a similar alternative to the 6682?

Thanks in adv...

Here's what you do: get the phone from the cingular site - or even better, from a 3rd party dealer that sells it for less than $249. Try letstalk.com, they sell it for free with new activation. You can then go to www.cingular.com/discounts (or if the school district has a Cingular Premier site, you can go there as well) and register for the monthly discount. You want to be sure to read over the terms & conditions on letstalk - they sometimes have additional restrictions that would prevent you from adding the discount. Lets Talk usually doesn't have the restrictions, but it's always good to check.

LetsTalk.com is a 3rd party dealer, but they're selling Cingular service, so you'd be able to go to Cingular customer care for any concern...

Thanks, I was already checking out LetsTalk.com, I think that is how I'll end up getting this phone. 🙂

This phone actually made it to some stores, but with all of the initial problems, Cingular decided to not ship it out so late(the phone was released almost a year ago!)

I was in a Cingular store a few weeks ago. The rep told me the next Nokia was going to be one of the N-Series. I love the 6682 though.

That sucks they are dropping the phone! It is not even on the website any longer. The 6682 is an excellent phone. The best reception and quality I have ever seen in a phone. The camera is great as well! The cool thing about the upcoming Nseries phones is the internal memory. The 6682 only has 8mb! While the Nseries has 20-40mb! The only reason I did not wait for the Nseries phones is that I got the 6682 from Celluar Choices (kinda like wirefly and lets.talk) for free. If you can still get it, I think it is an excellent buy. The Nseries will go down in price when you are ready for a new phone, thats if you ever want a new phone. Also use Opera mini instead of Opera with this phone. It is much faster. Good luck! 😎
