i have that exact same card you purchased (also got mine @ newegg) for 2gb, and it works fine!
of course when it is loaded with mp3s it takes a little while to search them using realplayer or the S60 supplied mp3 player, but i use oggplay and that works perfectly.
i think either your memory card is/was a dud or you're not putting it in the right way. no other reason why a 2gb shouldn't work.
it reads mine fine and even tells me how much memory i have left etc.
