I just called Cingular tonight and they said they would get me the unlock code next week. I think the only requirement is that you have had been with Cingular for more than 3 months. I'll post again when I get the code. 😁

Wow... does that mean I'll be able to get a SIM card from another provider and use the phone with it?

As of 2/6/06, Cingular does not have the ability to generate the unlock codes for the 6682. And they have no ETR for this issue.

I have applied a few times already and have been approved, they just cannot provide the code yet. And as you may have read from other forums, the only way to unlock a 6682 is with an unlock code from the service provider.

Good luck and let us know if you get the code ...

HHmmmm, that's kind of strange.....

Wasn't Cingular the one who locked the phone???? Not Nokia.

And then they're saying they have no ability to get the unlock code?

So they through the key in the garbage after making the lock?

Hi! So here's what I found out: Cingular cannot unlock the 6682- something about the firmware not allowing it. Design flaw or BS? They seemed willing to unlock any of their phones after 3 months of service, just not our beloved 6682.
I checked with http://www.thetravelinsider.info/roadwarriorc ontent/nokiaunlocking.htm
and through their info or a link to another forum I found out that this phone does not have the ability to be unlocked, period. I ended up sending my older SE T616 in for unlocking and and I just got it back from them. I'll be living in Sydney for awhile and I guess I'll just use both phones. 😕

Odd. . . has anyone tried

http://unlock.nokiafree.org/ »

to get an unlock code? I haven't bothered to try yet, but so far as I can tell, all one needs to know is the generation of the phone (ASIC 2,5,6, or 7) & the IMEI. I don't have a real need for the phone to be unlocked right now, but I can't imagine it's impossible. People unlocked the 6620 & the 7610 before right? How different is this phone?!?!

yeah the Cingular/Nokia issue is with more than just the 6682 - the audiovox smt-5600 is one also - as earlier stated their is not an ETR on this either
