No. In logs/setting, there is an option for log duration. I just checked mine. Came set to 30 days. Maybe yours is set to 1 day. Ther other options are 10 days and no log.

My logs are set to 30 days but they are also cleared when I shut the phone off. When I read the documentation it implied that the logs are kept at the carrier and loaded when requested, if supported by the carrier.

Have others been able to obtain the logs after powering off the phone?

I called Cingular tech support who said that the phone logs should not clear and that there must be something wrong with my phone that would require sending it back during which time I would have no phone!!!

Can anyone confirm that their phone holds call logs after power off and on?

Just to let everyone know. It's the phones software not being compatible with the 64k sim card. The 64k sim card, for some reason, causes the reset. When I use the old 32k card, the call log doesn't reset. I tried explaining this to Cingular & Nokia and they still don't know why. They just told me to either send it in to nokia or go to a service center and have them update the firmware. They are a bunch of idiots. At first it bothered me alot, but now, I'm kinda used to it now.

I got my phone last night and made and received a call with a friend just to get something on the logs. I then have turned off and on the phone several times and I still have my logs.

Bummer about the defect. I would definally try and get it resolved quickly, there may be something else going on that you just haven't discovered yet!

I would agree with Icyhot. Also, I would like to think a firmware upgrade would be available soon.

On another note...
Got my Kingston 512MB DV RS MMC yesterday.
Sheesh... 2 weeks to arrive from Singapore (bought it on Ebay, $40 + 10 shipping). After some intial problems trying to transfer from pc to phone what I had transfered to pc from my 64MB that came w/phone, left the phone in a REALLY weird state. Themes missing, duplicate all my contacts, software missing. I was able to do a restore from a backup I had taken a couple days ago and all is well now 😁

I bought the same card (from the same person apparently), but I am having issues with mine. When I first put it in it worked fine, but when I turn off the phone, the card is no longer recognized after turning back on. I have to open and close the card slot and then it is recognized again.

I have no trouble with the 64 that came with the phone, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the card. Bummer!

Hadn't noticed that this had switched to a discussion on mobile mmc cards. but since it did I have to tell you I found a link for the cards on http://www.russellbeattie.com/notebook/100850 3.html for USAMemory.net the page I ended up ordering from is http://usamemory.net/dvrsmmcmemory.html I ordered on a Tuesday night and and had my card on Thursday. Has worked fine. But I did have a similar problem when I had a Treo 650 for a short time. I put a card that had worked fine in other devices (kingsotn 512) and worked at first in the treo but after syncing It wouldn't be recognized until I would reformat (happened several times)

I have had no problems w/ mine-it's had two different sim cards too-cause they sent me one with an area code like an hour away and I had to go to cingular to get it changed. So I'm not sure about SIM incapability. I loose my wallpaper choice if I open my memory card slot- but my call logs are still there if I turn it on and off.

Mine deletes too SOMETIMES, but it's not the most important thing in the world to me. What is kinda annoying is that from time to time whenever I go into my contacts, it asks me if I want to copy SIM contacts to phone. There apparently are some service contacts hidden on the SIM card that I can't delete.

I had one when I was with AT&T for my 6620, but now that I migrated to Cingular, they gave me the 64k sim card. Could they give me a 32k sim card? And would that also solve the log clearing every time I shut my phone off?

I spoke with Nokia and they are suggesting to send the phone back. They will probably have to flash the phone and reinstall the software.
Problems I've encountered so far:

1. Call log deletion.
2. Memory full when using Netfront and Opera or Netfront and any other program.
3. Cannot connect with bluetooth headset, but am able to connect with my pc via bluetooth.
4. Switch between programs sometimes closes the previous application.

I am having the same problem with the call log. It happens almost every time I power the phone off then back on. I'm also having the problem the the phone wanting to copy new contacts from my sim. Usually after i turn my phone off and back on and enter my contacts it will prompt to copy new contacts from the sim. It's the service numbers which are locked in the sim btw.

I'm not sure I want to go through the whole exchange thingy again being that it always seems the replacement Cingular sends does the same thing.

I miss the good ol days of Cellular South....If I found a problem with my phone like the ones above. I could walk in the store hand them my phone and a technician would take my phone update the firmware and pretty much fix the ...

Mine is the same. But the first 9 days of using the phone, I did not have ANY problems.
Well, it retained call logs but I did get the copy to sim message upon opening Contacts, NOT everytime though.

I will probably try the "take the battery out for 30 mins." trick. Interesting... When receiving the phone new, of course it has been w/o the battery in for some time. Kind of a pain if you have to do that regularly though.

Spoke with Nokia today, who referred me to one of their local techs in my area......placed a call to him and described whats been going on. He stated, some time ago, Nokia had a similar issue and it centered around a capacitor that supplies power to retain some memory items. He suggested doing the following:

1. Charge you phone everyday for about 4-5 days, do it overnight.

2. Turn the phone off/on and see if it retains the call logs, if successful, do one more test.

3. With calls in the call log, pull the battery out of the phone for 10 mins, this is supposed to be enough time to discharge the capacitor if it is weak. If the call logs ARE NOT there, it may be an issue with the capacitor.

Both Nokia and the Repair rep HAVE NOT hea...

My phone:

I added this for comparison to others who might experience the problem. I too, lost phone contacts once or twice, but the test I preformed, after my contact with the Nokia rep, seemed to rule out the capacitor issue, will continue to monitor......and update if things change.......

Thank you for the information. This leads to the obvious question: how can I get that software version on my phone?

It is my impression that Nokia creates a standard version of the software that supports the phone's features, and then sells the phone and software to the carrier (Cingular). The carrier then tweeks the software to meet the needs/limitations of the carrier. Thus the apparent situation we have now, where the Nokia version works, but the Cingular version has problems.

I believe the solution must come from Cingular if you have a Cingular phone. If I were to send my phone to Nokia and th...
