Nokia 6682 / 6681

Hi all! Does anyone know of or if it is possible to force the 6682 or any phone to pickup a signal? I work in an "iffy" signal area and my cingular reception goes up or down, depending on which part of the desk the phone sits. Sometimes I have to wait quite a bit or just runout to the stairwell. I'm sure the phone looks for the strongest signal automatically, but it would be sweet if there was a program which could give a little more info on signal strength.
