There are 2 ways you can do it.
1. Save them on the card and not your phone then plug in the cable to the computer and open the card on your computer there is a folder on the card called pic.
2. if you have bluetooth on your computer you can send them to your computer though bluetooth one at a time

I have a Mac with built in bluetooth so it's very easy to get videos/ pictures off. You could also buy a "dongle" Basically all's it is like a flash drive via USB. I got one on Amazon.com for like $20 when I used to have a PC.

What type of program will open them?
Can I transfer them to an email folder then use the usb to open them in outlook?
How come I only find 7 unreadable files.

3. You can also use a card reader. They're pretty cheap -- think mine was about 15-bucks. On my Mac the card shows up and you can just drag them to the desktop or to iPhotos. Haven't tried it yet on my PC, but it seems like it should work the same.
To me this has worked has a pretty easy solution -- and it's a lot less expensive than the $40 to $50 for the data software, if all you want to do is transfer photos.
