sounds like limited MP3 functionality

So in addition to the 100 song limit...

1. It doesn't play variable bitrate mp3s (most of my music)

2. It doesn't play mp3s with bitrates over 192kbps (most the rest of my music)

3. It has trouble playing/transferring large mp3 files (also a great portion of my music, since I listen to DJ mixes exeeding an hour in length).

Can someone confirm this?

The phone looks great, but I want a phone that will do what I want it to do. Looks like I'll be holding out for something better - maybe the ROKR E2 if they don't botch that one up.

Wow am I glad you made this post. I figured out that the 192kbps limit was stopping some of my songs, but I couldn't figure out the other aspect. So it's VBR, eh?

Anyways, most of your complaints can be worked around. Just get some audio editing software and re-save the songs you want as 192kbps CBR. That's what I'm doing now and it's solved the problem of non-working songs. It's a little hassle but no big deal.

Not much I can say about your mixes though, I haven't tried any really large files.

And the 100 song limit I think is a negligible arguement against this phone (with a 512 card anyways. If you had a gig I would understand). I hardly have any mp3's that are under 5mb, so (since you lose a portion to formatting anyw...

I'm not trying to sell the Sony Ericsson w600 phone ya'll, especially because when you compare it to the looks of the SLVR. Well you can see the difference!

SLVR looks great!
Sony looks bulky and blocky... Bummer!

however I can tell you that I had over 40 mp3's and 60 some ring tones on there that was as easy as click and drag!

I was able to use the full MP3's as ringtones and assign each mp3 to different callers if desired!

you can assign different ringer ID's with slvr...and why would you assign a whole mp3 to a ringtone? It only plays for 30 seconds max and you have to start at beginning of song

I just found that out this weekend! ha!...
I guess one should edit a track for the part they want the ringer for...

Everyday that SLVR is growing on me!

But I still hate iTunes...

exactly, but it is cheaper... $.99 (or free with limew***) vs. $2.50 from cing.

there are the wav editors that are cool if you have the time for them.

the microsd card is partitioned into 3 dpts: mobile (contacts, pics, apps, tones, games, etc.), usb storage device (whatever data you want), and itunes (mp3's playable in itunes). if you download new apps to the card it will take up space = less songs. i'm very happy with how it's set up and i can put in my fav's which number about 50 w/o any problem.
