Mobile Phone Tools

Is there a way to connect the Mobile Phone Tools to this phone? I used to use that a lot with my old V220 for copying pictures, ring tones, etc back and forth and updating my calendar.

Thanks

I'm very glad you posted that question. YES you can use phone tools...from my research the software you need is called "Motorola Phone Tools" howver....it cost $40...im searching everywhere online for a trial or free version.........NO such luck. I want to be able to take pics on my phone and send them to my computer to upload to online profiles, etc. If anyone knows if there is any alternate software...and most importanlly for me FREE!!!!

Thanks! 😁

Try Handset Manager Bluetooth version or USB data version? I think the multimedia features are good, and the most important thing is that it's fairly priced.
I used it for my Razr, and I just go to web site to download the software, it just works on my new L7.

yes, update your mobile phone tools (when it starts up it usually prompts for update). then you can do the same things you did with your v220. if you have the cingular one it came with a usb cable for itunes transfer, use this same cable. if you have usb 2.0 you can even charge your phone! 🙂

Here's the catch, or at least it was with me. While I updated my mobile tools software it still did not have the SLVR L7 listed (that is, it could not detect the model), however, when i chose the RAZR, listed as V3 under the various GSM models, it worked great. All Studio features were avaliable to me, as well as all the other junk for contacts and email.

I also have this phone with t-mobile.

I did not update my version of Mobile Phone Tools. Like eddiearias, I also just selected the phone as the V3, so the image of the RAZR comes up but the program functions perfectly for the SLVR as well.

I purchased Mobile Phone Tools - software only for 24.99 from HelloMoto. Initial purchase was for the Razr V3. 1st connection after Razr did not recognize SLVR. I removed software and reinstalled clean and SLVR was recognized.
Software works perfectly.

you may not be able to upgrade mpt to recognize because it may not be a registered version. Knockoffs cannot usually update to newest version...For what it is worth I think that mpt is well worth the money.

Yea, we really have no choice with which software to use.

By the way, the SLVR needs version 4.0 to work.

I tried to get this thing to work on Saturday and it just wouldn't recognize the SLVR...
I can't update either so I guess you're right...?
Funny thing is I had downloaded 2 different versions and neither of them recognize the phone... It't sit's there with the clock and them goes back to the prompt of what access method to choose (USB, Bluetooth...etc...)

I wonder if Fry's electronics sells mpts?
I still have tried jumiping in from my linux box but I'm affraid to. The last time I did that the phone stopped working entirely and I returned it but they didn't want to give me credit for it after they took it into there warranty people... Ha!

Hi JonSpotts,

I've downloaded the ISO using Torrent which has an iso.rar extension and the ISO burner in your link. I don't seem able to open (see)and burn the ISO using this burner (maybe due to the .rar extension) and the burn always fails when I try using Nero to burn the ISO image. What other hints or help can you give us to make your suggestion work. BTW, does it make a difference if the CD is CD-R or CD-RW. Thanks alot in advance.

After reading all of your problems/questions/concerns, I realized that I have had similar problems and may have the solution to help you guys out.

First, let me explain the USB settings on the SLVR L7. When you go into MENU - SETTINGS - CONNECTION - USB SETTINGS, you will notice there are two options: MEMORY CARD (which is usually the default option), and DATA/FAX CONNECTION. When using iTunes make sure the phone is set to the MEMORY CARD setting. When using Mobile Phone Tools change the setting to DATA/FAX CONNECTION (it might work if you leave it on MEMORY CARD as well, im not too sure). I spent an hour trying to figure out why iTunes would no longer recognize my phone after I used MPT, and realized that I was dumb and forgot to swi...

Yeah, I just upgraded to MPT 4.0 as well through the link provided by JonSpotts in the previous posts. Now I can see the SLVR displayed instead of the RAZR and I didn't have to manually select the SLVR as a V3 😁 I highly recommend the link provided by JonSpotts because that version also has the liveupdates to keep your MPT updated.

I have been wondering what radiojh was talking about with his post, and this morning I finally saw what he was talking about.

For some reason when I plugged my phone into my computer this morning iTunes crashed and did not fully load. In the time before it shut itself down I heard a new USB device "ding dong". When I opened up My Computer I saw a new icon among my removeable drives (like a regular removeable disc) and I was able to navigate through all the folders on my phone.

I was able to delete MP3's and add new ones just as if my phone wer...

Your Phone can be set to store all types of files. This can be done when you first connect to iTunes. It is an option, Do you want to allow your SLVR to store all sort of files -YES or NO. Then your phone will always show up in Windows as a mass storage device or removable drive, etc.

main advantage is syncronizing your calendar and contacts. it also makes ringtones/pics/etc very simple. also streamlines making modem/fax calls although cingular currently doensn't support this- at least not for me.

I just went from a v220 to the slvr and the price of the software was worth it. I took my v220, backed up the 300+contacts, connected my slver, restored my contacts, and viola- perfect harmony. even my speed dial settings were saved. MPT remembered which contacts went to the SIM card and which ones went to the phone- so I don't have to keep all my numbers on the SIM card and I can use the more powerful phone address book.

calendar function is nice too- I don't carry my PDA around very much anymore when I'm away from work-...

you guys are trying to hard, i believe all you need to do is go to driversguide.com, they have everything there

search motorola, or slvr

what i dont understand is...why you need to do anything at all
its a normal usb cable that comes with just about every accessory you buy, and win xp should have default drivers for it
