I've got no hard evidence, but if i had to guess, I'd say probably Cingular, and I have a few good reasons:

1. Cingular is working on rolling out a push to talk service

2. Cingular already has an edge data network, and to my knowledge, t-mo does not.

3. Cingular has the razr v3

Thats my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

I agree, plus it has GSM 850 which T Mobile has none of. It is definitely a Cingular phone.

I have read that Moto is rolling out an entire line of the RAZR brand phones for Cingular. This one is part of them.

Aren't Cingular sell Nokia only candy bar phone? 🙄

True, that was a contract but Nokia has dropped the contract because Cingular is launching the Nokia 6102 which is a flip phone which then dropped the candy bar only contract with Cingular. Good Q and Cingular is carrying this phone. Look for this to follow 1 to 2 more version of the razr. Not kidding, adding edge and then adding video and edge. Expect a new razr or razr like phone to run on Cingular for the next year.

T-Mobile is starting to get 850MHz freq. phones. So, either T-Mobile will get it, or Cingular. Also, Rich put that this phone will be available in the 2nd half of 2005. By that time, T-Mobile will have EDGE. Right now some of T-Mobile's coverage area is starting to have EDGE. Some people in Washington, DC say they are getting EDGE speeds while using their EDGE phones.

😉 Well im not 100% sure but i think 90% is good. Cingular seems to be the one with the technology to handle it. But another reason is they have the RAZR which the new SLVR is an upgrade of it. Cingular always gets the upgrades with Moto. Like the v600 to the v551 to the RAZR so next down the line will probaly be the SLVR.
Take or leave it thats what i say.

It will probably end up being a Cingular phone if released in the US...but could end up with T-Mobile too since they are in fact releasing their EDGE network during 3rd quarter on 2005 and their 850 network is actually up and running right now on the same towers that Cingular uses...has not shown in coverage maps yet because not all their phones have 850 option on it yet...

Rich posted this in the "Phonescoop Forum" a little while ago...

"I've just made a major change to how we describe the modes in the phone specs. It's bound to cause some confusion initially, but it's really pretty simple, so I wanted to explain it here.

Basically, instead of referring to the standard cellular band as "800", we now call it "850". So anywhere it used to say "GSM 800", it now says "GSM 850", and anywhere it said "CDMA 800", it now says "CDMA 850"."

So basically...just because it says 850 band, does not mean it will be available only for Cingular. 😁

Actually thats exactly what it means. The 800/850 band is only operated by Cingular in GSM. SO yes this phone will be for Cingular.

Apr 21, 2005, 12:27 AM
Not exactly.

Motorola is planning on making an 850 version available for carriers if they want it, but that doesn't mean carriers like Cingular will choose it. Or if they do, it doesn't mean it will make it through testing and be released by them.

And other carriers do use GSM 850, both in the U.S. and other areas like Canada and Latin America.

The Nokia 6822 is a good example. It will ship in a GSM 850 version soon (for Rogers in Canada, I think,) but it is not currently expected to be shipped in volume with Cingular or any major U.S. carrier.

It doesn't automatically mean Cingular, but given the success of the Razr with Cingular, I'd be very, very surprised if this phone doesn't ship from Cingular.

The SLVR is coming out for Cingular, BUT I have heard that eventually, T-Mobile will start placing the 850 band on their phones so they can roam off Cingular's 850 network.

Apr 23, 2005, 6:47 PM
The Nokia 3220, which has GSM 850, was actually released on T-Mobile first and Cingular coming soon. Just because it says 850 does not mean it is a Cingular exclusive or that Cingular will release it at all. Now that Cingular's All Over coverage (GSM 850) is performing well, it is in T-Mobile's interest to give its customers phones with the ability to roam on this network.
...
Rich Brome

Apr 21, 2005, 12:21 AM
That doesn't have much to do with it. 800 = 850, so where it says "GSM 850" means the same thing as "GSM 800" before. No change.

It could also be for T-Mobile. I am not saying Cingular won't get it, they probably will along with T-Mobile.

- T-Mobile will/is launching EDGE in many areas
- T-Mobile just got one and will be getting many other 850 phones.
- Rumors has it that T-Mobile will launch
"Push-to-talk" by the end of the year or early next year and that you will be able to inter-connect with Cingular customers using thier "Push-to-talk".

So it could go eithier way . . .

I don't think they will by T-Mobile. Cingular can't afford them. Remember T-Mobile USA is under the control of T-Mobile International. T-Mobile in general is WAY BIGGER THAN CINGULAR! Plus, the FCC would not allow Cingular to become the only GSM carrier in the US, that would create a MONOPOLY, which will be very bad, since CINGULAR like to be greedy for money on their price plans, and bad customer service, SO I'VE HEARD!

Cingular did not really buy AT&T wireless they took out a loan from SBC and Bellsouth to make the merger happen.. It is ot amtter of afford it is a matter of FCC approval and T-mobile is not for sale at this time. T-mobile can not compete with Cingular Verizon and Nextel-Sprint. T-mobile will continue to appeal to younger subscribers who do not want to spend that much money and like the celebrites who pitch T-mobile products. The high ARPU customers who want data services and large coverage areas will not sign up 4 mobile. I do predict there will be partnership between the carriers on PTT and HSPDA. T-mobile does not have the money to launch these services so a partnership with Cingular is smart.

look at cingular current line, the only phone other than nokia that is a bar is the samsung c207. all other regular bar phones were shipped out of company owned stores in feb. the Simenes and Sony-Ericssons have been phased out. the s66 is still sold online to get rid of the stock, but it's not sold in company stores. the only reason the c207 made the cut was because it was already planned for launch with the agreement was signed.

So are you saying that the only bar phones Cingular will be selling out of the company stores will be Nokia? Or are you referring to any bar phones they sell? The reason I ask is that Cingular online availability looks pretty significant for bar phones other than Nokia.

I'm saying that in February, Cingular pulled all bar phones from stores that were not nokia. The only phones you see online other than nokia and the 1 samsung, are the siemens that as i stated before are only sold online to sell out the inventory we have in the warehouse. I shipped our non-nokia bar phones off myself when i received the email.

Back at the end of Feb. we got a email stating that bar phones other than nokias would not be sold by cingular any more. Reason being they signed a deal for some exculsive phones. Also they will continue to sell all of the phones they have now until they are depleated. But they have no new bar phones on the horrizon. Honestly I would think that we would be a carrier of this phone but if they deal they signed is as was stated to me then prob not. But as in with the A630 you can't always believe what cingular says.

Any idea how long that contract was for? I can't imagine we would just not sell ANY other bar phones, especially since siemens ONLY sells bar phones. And I just purchased the S66 at a company store, and they had it is stock there. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, but they had the Samsung C207 and S66 in the same store, as well as Treo and Blackberry. I doubt they count because they are PDA's, but it seems silly that Cingular would lock themselves into a deal like that. Unless, of course, they got a HELLUVA 😈 deal on the phones, which is always possible. Boo to Nokia and Motorola anyway.

Honestly I am not certain how long. All i know is that I have seen on this site and others that there are a few non nokia bar style phone with the 850 feq. coming out soon. Also they are all 3rd or 4th quarter. So I am starting to thing that the contract runs out towards the end of the year.

It's my understanding that the Nokia exclusive agreement ends right around the holiday season... perhaps even at the end of the third quarter. This agreement was just for a specific period of time and a lot of the new PTT phones are bar style, rugedized, etc. You'll see the SLVR and it's cousins during the holidays I'm sure!

I wouldn't put much faith in that site. They originally had the V635 listed to T-Mobile. Then T-Mobile and Cingular, and now just Cingular. And if you go to the V635 forum, there has been a lot of discussion and letters from Motorola shown that shows the V635 is not even coming to a US carrier. So, that site has shown not to be reliable really. But the rest seem possible, unless the other discussion about Nokia bar phones only is true and then who really knows after that.
