i talked to a local sprint rep today who has obviously been keeping up on things and has tested both the 5600 and the A800. he gave me some info.
he said that sanyo shipped out today to sprint for distro.
he's expecting to see them by the 25th but expects at least by the end of the month.
the phone is truly awesome.
it's going to be the same price as the 5600, roughly and carry the rebate. it comes with all kinds of new technology, bells and whistles if you will, which you all are well aware of. i read it has a voice recognition text imput. WHAT? plus you've got to admit an eye that can scan anything is pretty cool let alone one that scans information for your phone book. and he said that sprint just spent like 3 billion on upgrading th...

You mean the Samsung shipped friday? Because the sano's been out for a while now.

Samsung a800
sanyo 5600

I hope the a800 will be out this month. I herd the LG MM-535 was suppose to reach stores around Thursday of next week, though. I hope your buddy didn't get confused.

Sorry Zeno not a die hard anything! I have had just about every high end phone sprint has brought out samsungs included! I happen to think though that this sanyo 5600 is the best phone sprint has brought out! It happens to be part of my job to review new gadgets! I speak unbiased truth when giving my reviews unlike many others who post to this forum!

The 5600 is nice, no doubt. But the hinge on my 8100 sucks, and I still blame sanyo's crappy engineering. The fact of the matter is, I am rough on flip phones. I use them at work, and if I can't readily find my headset, I won't hesitate to prop it to my ear with my sholder. Hence the broken 8100 hinge.

A couple of arguments for the a800 over the 5600... The 2MP is nice, but the CCP is the real clincher. If it stands up to general expectations, it will be a much better camera. Why do I care? I like sending funny candid moments to friends who couldn't make the party. Kinda like "look I'm having fun! How's Jepordy?" If I have to set up light stands to take a picture, it kills the point of having a camera phone.

All of my frien...

Who are you trying to kid there isn't anyone on the face of this earth who is in love with their phone manufacture the way you are with samsung. The only reason I do what I do on here is because you tuolumne shove samsung down everyones throat in every post you have ever posted on. I like so many others have gotten so sick of what you post it's not even funny. No matter what the thread is about you post all about your samsung crap. I love to piss you off and I know I have many times and that has all been worth it. I have used samsungs some have been good others rotten to the core but as long as the phone works and does what it's supposed to I'm all for it. I have already been approved to purchase the lg535 and samsung a800 so when they...

I've obviously stumbled in on a bit of a heated rivalry here. As a completely detached third party, I'd like to make some observations.

Now that you mention it, Tuolumne does remind me a bit of the guy on the Wendy's commercials. "So, do you work for Samsung?" "Well, not officially..."

On the other hand, I see a lot more Sanyo freaks out there who are just as (if not sometimes more) die-hard. I normally don't ask them which phone to buy.

This said, stephenl65, it seems a bit odd to me that you dedicate a piece of your existence to pissing off the samsung guy. I mean, that whole post just makes me think your a800 review is going to be bias just so Tuolumne will get pissed about it.

Just an observation..

I see it like ...

Hate to burst your bubble, but there is not a Sprint Rep in the world who will know when the A800 is supposed to be in. Techs are still testing the phone which means the earliest launch date would still be a couple of months away. Believe me when I say that there is no way that Sprint rep would know when the A800 is coming out - he is full of it and you can quote me on that

Actually, when I wrote Sprint about the 535 and a800, they said both should be out "very soon." While they didn't give me a date, they did assure me the release dates should not be months away. So someone must know something. Maby not a basic rep, but someone either lied to me or they have some sort of clues as to the release of the 2 phones.

I hope that is correct since I want this phone sooner than later. However I work for Sprint and the Sprint process with giving release dates is that they don't. In fact a Sprint tech got in big trouble for giving a tentative date that Sprint gave techs. They no longer do that because that info was published on this site.

Typically, it violates confidentiality agreements.

A Sprint rep at a Sprint store is really at the bottom rung of the company's hierarchy. The only news they get from corporate is what their manager passes along from the email messages that all Sprint store managers get.

Take any assertion from a Sprint store rep about a phone's release date with a grain of salt, unless the phone you're wanting has been oficially released by Sprint.

as much as i would love to "believe you" because you want us to, i'd like to know where you (you're not a rep are you) got your trustworthy info. the person i spoke with assured me samsung shipped last friday, the 15th. he had tested the phone and was anxious for his own. what motivation does he have to just be "full of it" and be telling all of his customers lies? yes, you are right in the fact that he didn't know the exact date of "release". but he knew it wasn't months away. he knew it was going to be by the end of the month. there is no way this phone is coming out in june as you think...
but, then again.. what do i know 🙄

This phone actually just showed up in Best Buys database showing a May 15th release date. This might not be a dead on release date, but when it listed the 5600's release date it was only off by a couple weeks. I also just recently called Sprint for an update on the release date and she told me mid May. So we will see.

Listen pal I couldn't care less if you believe me but the fact is a I do work for Sprint and am aware of how the release date process works. And if the phone does come out at the end of this month, in the immortal words of Bart Simpson, I will eat my shorts. Though I would expect that you will be eating yours. Wait untill June or July at earliest. And you right, what do you know.

Tell you what, if the A800 comes out before May 15th I will never post another message again. However if doesn't then the same applies to you. Hrmm.. I think the date should be June 1st, not May 15th. You said June or July earliest, so my moving the date to May 15th it kinda makes you look like your back peddeling.

But getting back to the topic of the unknown release, this is what I don't get... I need a new phone as my old one is getting ragged. Why is it so imparitive to keep me in the dark on the possible release dates of the phone? If they know for a fact it's not going to be out until after June, why don't they just tell me that so I can choose a different phone?

Regardless, I did ask Sprint and they said "very soon." I'm hoping the "very" means before June.

Hmmm, see I don't backpeddle, I found at an early age that backpeddling doesn't get you anywhere, you can find that in bicycling 101. I stand by the probable June or July release date, I simply chose May 15th as my challenge becaues eveyone seems so sure it will be out by that date and they are going off nothing. However that said you bring up a good question about why Sprint keeps the release date in the dark. The most likely reason is simply because things change, a prime example of that is Samsung I-550, its seemed as though it was all set for a December release date but then Sprint decided that they would rather sell all the I-500's first and when that didn't happen, and coupled with the fact it wasn't written for EV-DO they decided not ...

Actually, I think May 15th is when Best Buy has it being available, so I doubt too we will see it before then.

Best Buy had the 5600 as "being available" long before it ever came out, which doesn't realy help the before June case, but I am still hoping the rep that answered my email didn't think June was "very soon". Oh well, I am willing to bet my crippled 8100 is going to fall appart before this phon makes it out.

I called Samsung yesterday and they told me that it was up to Sprint to choose the release date for this phone, so then I e-mailed Sprint and they replied with this:

"I understand that you are eager to use the Samsung SPH- a800 handset.

Please know that the handset is about to be launched, but the exact
date
is not known."

Maybe mid-May is possible...

The A800 was shipped from Korea to Sprint distribution 2 days ago. That means the phone has completed hardware and firmware verifications and is ready to be sold. It is up to Sprint now to get the device distributed accross the nation. That WILl NOT take more than a month to do so.

The sheet I'm referring to is the same sheet that you already referenced, which is the SEBU sheet found through Connected on the Sprint intranet, I'm assuming you work for Sprint so you can look it up if you already haven't. Plus I wouldn't dream of releasing any Sprint documents, the last Sprint employee who did that got in a heap o' trouble.

i talked to a sprint rep sat night and they said mid to late june. so were all hearing differnt things. wonder if she got the 800 confused with the 535. if someone doesnt keep up on this stuff like we do, all sliders might look alite to them. although, im all for it coming out sooner. i have the 535 on its way. im torn right now between the 5600, 535 and 800, i keep my cell in my pocket so i kinda want the 5600 so the screen is protected. i dont like phone cases. the phones are pretty much identical on features, a few here and there, like the ptt is only 5600, i personally dont use that, 800 has no speaker phone, i like an ear peice anyway, text templates, dont need them, im always talking out the side of my head anyway, the batt life, phone...

535 is out but not in most stores yet. a800 will be soon, very soon, quite a bit before the end of the month. The only complaint I think anyone will really have about the phone is that you can't take high res pictures unless you have a card inserted. I got to play with it a few months back when a friend of mine was testing it (He also tested the 535 and LG 125). More impressive than the 5600, but still left me wanting for more. I have yet to see a phone for Sprint (my employer) that actually satisfies me with all of the features I want.

Hey Rally, when you got to use it, how did it 'feel'? Is the slider feel very different to a flip when holding and talking? Also, what was your opinion on the phone's bulk-factor?
...
rallykid

May 4, 2005, 9:08 AM
Bulk wasn't bad but I am used to a Moto 710, still, not bad though. It felt smaller than the 535 in my hand, like I was less likely to drop it due to bulk. The slider felt solid, much like the LG 535. If it doesn't exhibit the typical Samsung problems that are commonplace with phones like the VGA1000, a680 and a660 then this one should be a winner for Sprint. I like the camera layout and how the phone basically becomes a normal digital camera, makes taking pictures a lot easier.
