phone work with Cingular?

on the "info" page it says that this phone isn't available with the current carriers....and yet you can still buy it? hmm i'm a little confused... i have cingular..soo---?
-also, hows the camera on it? i've been reading the reviews and they aren't sounding too hot..

When a carrier "picks up" a phone, it means that they take the phone and put their software in the phone. This means different things for different carriers. Verizon, for example, really disables a lot of the features of a phone so you have to pay them for the features (e.g. they disable the mp3 player which means you can't use the songs as ringtones, so you have to buy their ringtones). Cingular doesn't cripple their phones as much. I really don't know what their software would cripple, if anything. Most any phone through a carrier is going to be locked to that carrier's network.
