RINGTONES ON THE V635!!

watever

Aug 29, 2005, 2:16 PM
hey guys..i just purchased the V635.

I had a question. How do I make MP3's as the ringtone. Do i have to convert the file. Do I have to change the bit rate? and how do i do all of that? and once the file is finished, where to i put it?

Thank You

Easiest way using TransFlash card with SD adapter...

Changing the bit rate makes the file smaller, and for the case of the ringtone probably won't reduce quality too much (you'd have to test that for your own liking). The lowest bit rate I've found that it takes is 64kbps.

If you have iTunes, select the file you want (import from CD, or one you have as an mp3 etc.) and change the preferences (iTunes menu > Preferences > Importing) under "importing" to say the bit rate (custom setting if lower than 12😎 under "setting" and the "import using" should be MP3 encoder...

If you'd like a few seconds of the song, find that part and watch the elapsted time, change the information of the song to say the start/stop time of those few seconds (...

OK, I'm having the same problem. I put the songs into the ringtone folder, and I can play them using the MP3 player on the phone, but once I go to assign a ringer ID, I don't see them there.
Anything else I can try?

I just read one of the other posts, and it says that the MP3 has to be saved on the phone before you can use it as a ringtone.
I have a 512MB TF card, and a lot of MP3s on it. Is there any way of setting the ringer ID from the card?

Please help!!!

No, there is no way of setting ringtones from the TF. Please note that there's really no point in setting them from the TF anyway, because your ringtone will only play 20 or so seconds of the entire song anyway. My advice is to save the entire mp3 to your TF, then use a program such as MPT or mp3 cutter on your computer to cut the mp3 to 20 seconds and store that on your phone to use as a ringtone. Takes a bit more time, but it saves memory and ends up being easier.

thanks for the info. I have a Nokia 6600, on which you can set the ringtone from the SD card that's in there. They're not MP3's, but I was hoping it was the same way with the V635.

No worries 😉

This forum has helped me out with a ton of technical stuff and the rest I've been playing with to see what works best for me...Making ringers and custom wallpapers is fun! This is the perfect phone for me, so I'm enjoying the heck out of all of it.

I also take pictures straight to the TF and transfer them through the SD adapter and reader/writer, makes emailing etc easy and cheaper than doing MMS or something from phone. Quality is good, even on normal settings. Wallpapers can be set from TF too.
