HELP! - Questions for those using this phone with a US carrier

So this is the phone I want. I currently have my old AT+T contract, which was acquired by Cingular. However, I don't want any current Cingular phone - they're all pretty low on features compared to this model.

Few questions:

Will Motorola ever release this phone in the US, and if not, is there a comparable model they plan to release? I mean, why would they make a Quad band phone and not release it in the US?

Can I simply take my SIM card from my Nokia phone and put it in this phone, and still get my current service, internet features, etc?

To people with this phone - is it reliable? And if it breaks, is it true that I won't be able to get any tech support from Motorola or Cingular, even through a warranty?

If and when I upgrad...

ok im 99% positive that this phone isnt gonna make it to the US which sucks.

yeah, you can just put your sim in and all your features will be available. all you need to do is go to http://secure.mouse2mobile.com/clients/cingul ar/ota/configuredevice.asp to get your internet/mms message settings, which the website sends to your phone

Yes, my phone has been very reliable to me. i get great reception almost everywhere. however im not sure about the tech support issue.

if you were to upgrade to cingular and get a new sim card, yes it would work just the same as your old sim, you'd just need to get the cingular media settings.

and yeah cingular does suck at getting new phones with good features it really pisses me off.

overall i wou...

thanks finn i really appreciate your input and your tech advice.

i am leaning heavily towards getting this as it's not getting a bit cheaper, just wish i could see one first and hold it in my hand and get a feel for it.

do you keep yours in your pocket and is it pretty much small enough for that?

I used the link to configure Media Net service and got these instructions:
*******************************************
After installing the settings, the profile will need to be selected as default:

1. Press the Menu button.

2. Scroll to Settings and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to Web Sessions and press SELECT .

4. Scroll to Web Sessions again and press SELECT.

5. Scroll to the new profile and press the Menu button.

6. Scroll to Set Default and press SELECT.

7. Press the red Hang-up button to return to the main screen.

The settings have been applied and are ready for use.

alright to the question about the size yes it fits fine in my pocket. its definently not small but i like being able to feel that your phone is there.

for the question about the internet and multimedia settings theres a link i put in my earlier response where you can go and it will send the settings for your multimedia/internet stuff right away its really simple. as far as calls and text messaging those work right after you put in the sim.

I had a problem recently with text both incoming and outgoing...Try the company first, they'll make you power down and send the signal to boost the message center...that would be the easiest fix if it's the case. You need to power cycle (on off) once in a while to get updated signals. Hope that works...Otherwise you may need to just re-do settings for messages.

MY settings work fine...My post was in reply to your text messaging not working! 🙂

Text messages should be set up through the carrier automatically...They should test it for you while you are on the phone (and ask for a number to send a test TO them)...You may want to check you message center number...But that's the quickest way to check it out first (power down, have them send the signal).

Don't know if you got this up and running again...If not, don't know which carrier you are with if you want to post more about the problem. The zip code won't help us without which carrier you use...Good luck!!
