question for anyone!

I need some feedback......

I went to mobilebee.com to see the deal with the v635. The cingular plan you sign up for determines the price you pay for the phone. I want the 600 Anytime Nation plan for 1 year. That means the phone would cost me 249.99. I'm currently with ATT so I called these guys up to see how I could get my number ported over to a cingular plan. They tell me that ATT customers switching over to cingular through them are only eligible for an $80 discount from the retail price of the phone ($389.99), so it would cost me $309.99 with that same plan. That sounds like a bunch of crap to me. My questions are:

1. Are they legally allowed to do that since I am technically going to be a new cingular customer and I am activ...

Yes he is correct. AT&T customers are EXISTING customers because of the aquisition. That is why you don't get the NEW activation pricing. Basically you are an upgrade in their eyes.

No, Lockine will not insure your unlocked and unbranded phone. I carry one also on Cingular, and if anything happens to it I am out $300. Yes he is feeding you a line on the insurance. Your auto/renter/homeowner insurance will cover it if something happens.

If I get the phone off EBay, I can walk into a Cingular store and get a new plan? Do I keep my SIM card or am I gonna get a new one? Thanks for your feedback earlier today.

If you get it off of Ebay, you don't have to get a new plan since the phone is a GSM phone, you can just switch the phones with out telling the carrier. Since you are buying the phone, Cingular has nothing to do with it. If you are on a plan that you don't like, its up to you about switching plans, but buying phone has nothing to do with a plan, since you are buying from a 3rd party dealer .

Go to Ebay.com and find the phone for a good price. Thats the beauty of GSM, you don't have to contact the cell phone company to change your phone. When you get the phone, just change your plan.

Terry, how much did you get your phone for and what did it come with? Also, will the phone have its own GSM card or will I get one at the cingular store if i decide to change plans? OR do I keep my current GSM card? These might seem like silly questions but I'm really not clear about it.

I decided to get mines from Ebay. I got it for $299 plus I had to pay $35 for 2 day Air shipping via FEDEX. Go on ebay and see if you can find a good deal. If you already have a SIM card, you that, and just put it into the phone, since they come UNBRANDED and UNLOCKED.
UNBRANDED= There are no carrier settings put into the phone. Ex) No MEdia NET, or mMode, or T-Zones.

UnLOCKED= You can put any GSM carriers SIM into the phone.

I work with cingular and I don't think you can get insurance for the v635 through us because it isn't a phone that we carry yet.

Theres no word yet on a release date however I live in Canada and I know we just got it with Rogers. Rogers and Cingular usually off similar phones if not the same in most cases. I'll keep you posted.

I was in the local Cingular store tonight. The guy there said to wait a couple of weeks cause he thinks the phone's gonna come out. His moto rep has the phone and he's gettin one himself. It may be a part of a summer release (early June) like the v600 was.

Don't believe that. Those reps in the store don't know until they receive it in the store officially. It is not coming to the US for a Carrier.

I would love to know how you know all of this stuff about release dates. The v600 and v620 were both offered in the US so it seems odd to me that they wouldn't offer the upgrade to these popular models.

Your wrong. Only the V600 was offered in the United States for a carrier. The V620, as well as the V635 are being imported here to the US. They are not officially sold for a carrier. You only see them from Indirect dealers, that have connections on bringing phones from overseas to the US.

It seems odd and a little unbelievable that no US carrier would sell the v635 since it IS an upgrade to the v600 which was very popular and also because it offers just about everything that ordinary consumers would want in a phone. Canada was used as a testing ground for the GSM service itself before the US went with it and it would be no surprise if a similar procedure was followed for certain phone releases. And as far as them only being imported, all phones are only sold indirectly at some point or another. It's just like any other phone that people buy or bought online, etc opposed to through a direct dealer; people who can't wait for the phone's actual release find a way to get it earlier like I almost did before it was released on Roge...

Chotto Matte!!!
If you sign up for 2 years, even if you are an ATT customer, you should still get the discount. In addition, they should give you the $80 discount. This is what AT&T business line told me.

How does the cingular plan you sign up for affect the pice of th phone? If cingular doesn't offer it yet then there shouldn't be any deals involving the two. Let me know that much and I'll try to find something out for you. 😎

the phone and plan are just put together, the v635 is not available through cingular yet. there are only offering you a discount because they are making money off of the service agreement, and that is why they give you less of a discount on the migration, because they don't make as much money off of that sale. att/cingular are now one and moving between them is like upgrading not like starting new service. 😎

Still, if you renew your contract for another 2 years they will give you (if they offer the 635) the phone with the 2 year discount."there are only offering you a discount because they are making money off of the service agreement", I dont get this, are you talking about mobilebee or all service companies in general? That is how they make their money, I think most people know that. I migrated my wife from her Cingular Nokia 3360 to a Cingular Moto V400 for 1 year contract and she received the regular 1 year discount. And there was a rebate. No upgrading policy, nothing. I spoke with AT&T/Cingular Business and they told me (an AT&T TDMA user) that if the phone had discounts, I will get whatever # of year discount (1 or 2), plus my migration d...
