DUN hack

Will/can Verizon disable the hack that allows us to use the phone as a modem via USB?

I thought since Verizon does not official support using this phone as a modem for your computer, they could in the future block this "feature".

Sprint officially provides a service to use thier PDA (PC-6700) as a modem and they charge for it. I don't want to buy the Samsung phone only to have Verizon disable this feature.

Thanks,

Thanks Britt. I know the actual hack is documented on several sites. I'm more concerned that Verizon could at some future date simply disable the hack (I think that is what verizion did via over the air programming for the LG 8100).

One of my main reasons for buying this phone would be to use it as a modem, but if VZ could simply disable the modem, I rather go with the Sprint option (PPC 6700 phone), since Sprint has an official service to use their phone as a modem (for $25/month).

Oh, I got you. I am sure even if they disabled the hack (i.e. with the WM05 upgrade) that people will just come out with another hack.... As you may recall, the tethered modem hack came out almost immediately, however, the DUN hack did take a while longer.

I have never heard of an upgrade that was mandatory. For instance, I have a v710 and if you chose to upgrade to the more stable OS then you could no longer get MP3 ringtones.

The reason I wouldn't worry about it is due to the fact that there are so many dorks with this phone that will come up with a new hack... Just my guess anyway. Hope this helps... Take care.

they cannot disable over the air, ota (*22😎only changes your prl's not your actual sofware. the only way they could change your sofware is if you take it in and have them flash it. If your are really worried about it then i suggest you get a blackberry 7130e, that phone is authorized by verizon to be tehthered to a laptop and take advantage of evdo.
