Ok, I've been a PDA and cell phone user all these years. Its time to replace the PDA and I'm looking at the Samsung i730

I currently have a LG VX8700, with verizon.
Will I be able to purchase a i730, port my exisiting number over to and not buy any data plan? and just use the i730s WiFi abilities to connect to the web?

You'll need to enter you contacts into outlook and use activesync...verizon may be able to upload your phonebook not sure...and yes you can have it without a dataplan but its worthless...the WIFI on the i730 is great..you'll enjoy it

I'm not sure why you say having it with out the data plan is worthless...and the WiFI is great. Am I able to use the WIFI abilities, without the dataplan? If not I understand,, if I can use the WiFI at no charge thats great. I understand that means, often I wont be connected to the web.

Thanks

You can use wifi even if you arent paying for a data plan. I guess its not "worthless" without a data plan..but I'm always on the run and am not always around wifi...so its nice...and I also tether it as a modem so I use my phone for pretty much everything
