It's OFFICIAL - NO CAMERA AT ALL!

I just spoke with a tech MANAGER at Samsung USA and they WILL NOT release a camera version of the i730 here in the US. They originaly had planned on having a camera built in but could not keep the OS stable enough to support the camera along with all the other goodies. That also explains the reason for the black spot on the back of the phone.

That's interesting because another thread states the current i730 offering could be outfitted with a camera should Verizon decide to offer i730s with cameras. The person who started the thread claims he talked to a Samsung rep as well.

These threads are a great source of information (or misinformation) and confusion. Thanks for the update.

I confirm what the first post says. I have talked with a Technical Data specialist for VZW and he has said that VZW will NEVER offer a camera version.

well that make alot more sense then releasing the I730 to the public without the camera, and 2 weeks later releasing the camera version without giving consumers an option.

All,

Please be aware that emails sent to executive at verizion has yeilded individual responce unlike the one on verizion web site. In questioning if a camera version will be available, his responce was yes in 60 days. Here is one of the many posted responce from Ron on pdaphonehome.com: Also I will post his email incase you want to verify for your self.

Dear Michael

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless. I appreciate your interest in a camera version of the Samsung i730 and I thank you for your multiple accounts with Verizon and Verizon Wireless.

While a definitive date for this phone is not available, Verizon Wireless hopes to release this phone within the next 60 days....

I agree with didlucci. Also I'm getting sick and tired of Verizon's bs in terms of getting 'self-claimed' top-notched phones. Ugh...
Well anyhow, back to Camera issue, apparently the i730 is export version of the SPH-M4300 released in Korea. The features look identical to the i730 -- except for the 1.3MP camera. It's just not convincing that Samsung cannot outfit the i730 with a camera due to technical instability. Totally not convincing. How could Samsung outfit a camera on a same-spec phone and after it's been exported to the States, the device suddenly cannot stabilize. Also, I have used Samsung phone since...forever. They have managed to outfit a phone in Korea with a 5MP camera. It's been out for awhile now...I think it proves the poin...

This may or may not mean anything but check this site out.

This site apparently buys used cell phones for recycling(?). Anyhow, they list two SCH-i730; one is $68 and the other $75. I checked the differences and apparently the $75 has "built in camera" as opposed to $68 which apparently doesn't. Is this a clue as to if Verizon's planning for a week-later release of camera version?
If I were to buy the non-camera version this week, would there be an upgrade available? I mean, is it possible at all??

Yeah I said it, everybody talked to this person and that person, they said this and they said that which means nothing to me. Tell you the truth I do not know who to believe so I just wait until I am eligible to upgrade my phone. Whatever’s the hottest and latest technology Verizon Wireless has at the time I buy. Although I find some of the information interesting and valid the most is unreliable and useless. I am not trying to dog any one out it’s just the source of information people get is here say or it changes due to reason we might never know.

Newjerseycat,

Please note the post on a verizon executive that say phone with camera will be out in 60 days. I posted his email incase you want to email him as well. Responsed are individualized which is nice for a change.
