Camera Upgrade

Aerfally

Jul 5, 2005, 9:36 AM
Just came off the phone with a samsung representative...she said that if (ever) verizon decides to ship out the camera version the existing (non-camera) version will be able to be upgraded. I asked again If it's true and I don't have to buy a new phone and she said yes, only an upgrade.

Hope she's right.

First: Previously Verizon has released phone's (so I've read on this site) with 1 model coming out early, without a camera, and a follow up model coming out later with a camera. Supposedly the 1st model, without the camera has an area on the back of the phone which appears as if a camera should be placed there. I am wondering if on those particular model phones, if there was ever an "upgrade option" similar to what you are talking about. If there was, I would be much more inclined to purchase the phone.

Secondly, What is the likelihood that the phone would ever be released with a camera, factory installed??

I was wrong. It's 10 days not 7 days after the general release.

Here's the link to a VZN rep:

and you beleive her? Tell me what will Verizon or Samsung do with all the I730's sold so far? Why would they release a non camera version only to take them back a few weeks later? What did she mean by an "UPGRADE ONLY" i SMELL MORE DOLLARS
I'm not doubting you it just sound foolish.
But then again its the wireless world 😎

...when I first read this message...I thought "yeah right...that'll happen. Nowhere to even put an 'upgrade' on the phone for a camera.

So then I pull out the phone just to look and pat myself on the back for being right...I see this black pad on the back of the screen portion of the slider.

'Interesting'...I think. So I scratch my fingernail over it. Huh...imagine that. There's a depression right in the middle of that black pad if you press on it a little.

Anyone wanna bet that's where the camera will go? Possibly?

To contradict my own theory however...it looks kinda tight to be able to slide back down...don't look like they could fit MUCH of a lens in there.

However..I can't see verizon/samsung upgrading all the phones...

my bad....I just saw the ebay auction that was mentioned that shows where the camera will be on the cam version....

Wonder what this black pad on the back is covering up though...I'm curious....why not make it solid there?

I think there was a mirror there on the korean version so you can photo yourself. But I could be wrong.

It's OFFICIAL - NO CAMERA AT ALL!
by isahotwok Today, 6:45 PM

I just spoke with a tech MANAGER at Samsung USA and they WILL NOT release a camera version of the i730 here in the US. They originaly had planned on having a camera built in but could not keep the OS stable enough to support the camera along with all the other goodies. That also explains the reason for the black spot on the back of the phone.

The above is a thread started by isahotwok. I'm sure it isn't the first time two reps from the same company have provide equally opposing information. The facts lie somewhere in all of this.
