Guess what dudes and dudets, we have figured it out. You can use your I730 as a modem. Go to your phone menu and type in **7284 You might like what you see!!!!

ok you open the phone menu. Next you type in **7284 just as if you were dialing any other phone number. Then a menu pops up. data via usb data via bluetooth data via internal. This boys and girls is the hidden menu that we are not supossed to be able to get to. so far we have figured that the usb works but the bluetooth is still a work in progress. connect the phone via usb with as off and it detects it as a modem. remember to also download the samsung drivers off of their website.

first what you mean? are you talking about going through wifi or do you mean using the phone as a modem? once you get it working you can call any number.

i want to use the phone as a modem, but when it dials the # into the modem pool nothing works.
I was wondering if this feature (wireless modem) was disabled??

i have a feeling that verizon disabled this feature so that the user can't dial into their own network and surf the net. they want the customer to pay for their express network.

Works like a champ!

I downloaded the drivers from the Samsung site and phone recognized as a modem. Use the dialing sequence #777

Noticed when the hidden menu is set to USB, Active Sync won't see the phone - but no big deal, Easy to change back.

One question; when using the phone standalone and using the built-in browser IE to surf the web, if I don't chane the menu back to Internal Phone, I'll get a dialog "Dialling #777" and the web page loads. If I leave it this way, is there any performance penalty, or any other issues that Verizon surveillance might notice?

Thanks

John

I was talking to a VZN guy at one of their stores about using the XV6600 as a modem.

He said that if your MONTHLY usage, in terms of Megs uploaded and/or downloaded, is more than what would be expected with a PDA, they could warn you, charge you the higher aircard rate, or shut down your data access all together.

So if you use it as a modem a little each day, or a lot a few times a month, you will probably be OK. If you use it a lot each day, expect your phone to be shut down and a nasty note from the VZN modem Nazis to appear on your display.

When you claim you surf the web via the i730 directly by dialing #777, I think you end up using the old 1XRT network, not the EVDO. Is there a way to connect via EVDO using your minutes?

rzande1, you are a total crack up. You taking any credit whatsoever for figuring out this hack (with all of your "we figured out" BS) is like Al Gore taking credit for inventing the freakin internet!

"hytekjosh" is a man among boys.

Posting HIS hack on this site was about as dumb as calling up VZW directly and asking them to fix the hack. While feeding your inferiority complex you jacked us all. This forum is comprised of and frequented by several verizon reps each day, and you posting htekjosh's find here, will probably lead to verizon sending an over-the-air fix.

Congratulation, Sport you screwed us...

First of all I never took credit for it. Second of all what makes you think that this is the ONLY site reps look at. I hate to tell you this dude but the other site is listed ALL OVER this website. So what, you think the rep comes here and says to themselves hm I will ONLY look at phonescoop. Oh yea this is the ONLY website on the planet that something like this would be listed on. OH no I would never look at another site. Oh look here is a note on another site. Oh it must not mean anything I will just ignore it. I hate to tell you this but if you think that this is the only site that people look at you just simply are not all that bright but rather up there with that archie bunker mentality. Trust me corporate spies are everywhere and if so...

Come on dude, you WERE trying to be the big man leading everyone to beleive you had something to do with it, with all of your "WE" lingo. Its no big deal, more funny than anything else.

And this site (more than anywhere else) is the VZW "watercooler" site. The site the hack was uncovered on is more or less a "tech-guy" site. They speak a language few phone scoopers care to understand. This site is VERY main-stream and for the most part for Joe-blow. VZW's uneducated and untrained CS reps send customers to visit THIS ...

well i used the we cause alot of people were trying to figure it out including me. Just because one person figures it out dont mean everyone else was useless and wasnt part of the effort. btw i am not fifty but actually still in undergrad at a university. Eh my parents use the archie bunker thing so it just caught on. See my problem is that I expect everyone else to be college educated so yea i do admit that i did think a bit too much of the spies lol. I a still in that unrealistic companies hire smart people phase. p.s. excuse the type i am still getting used to the tiny keyboard on this thing.
