What is up with disabling the Laptop modem functionality???

😳

According to Cnet's review it says you can't use this phone as a modem on either EV-DO or WiFi. Anyone proven otherwise?

That is one of the main reasons I would buy this phone and its super fast EVDO network. Why the heck would they disable this feature???

To me that makes it much less useful. Doesn't the Audiovox 6600 allow modem usage??

Thanks,

Dan

The Audiovox 6600 did allow modem usage, but the i730's modem doesn't work. I like the i730 better. I have no need for the modem capabilities so it's no big deal to me. It's a shame they would disable a feature for no good reason.

I'm in the same boat as you.

The i730 seems to be a winner over the 6600 except for the smaller screen, lack of a camera and DUN.

Nothing can be done about the screen size short of reading glasses. The camera (1.6M vrs. 0.3M on the 6600) is suppose to be available a week after the general release on July 7. Finally, DUN, both 1x and EVDO works using USB. Hopefully BT won't be far behind. You have to download the drivers from the Samsung site. Here is a link with the directions:

See FAQ #2 and #11.

This is making the i730 look like a winner. I've heard that the battery life sucks, like the 6600, especially using BT. It's looking like this will be a problem we...

Actually the battery life on my phone seems to be good. I went like 8 hours on evdo on the standard battery with no problems. But then again I always fully cycle my battery.

I saw one posting, I think it was glueman, that said he's on EVDO for about 2 hours, on the phone for 3-4 hours, and by 3:30 pm he's gone through BOTH his standard and high capacity batteries. He said he doesn't bring his chargers to work, which is kinda stupid, but even so his usage isn't extraordinary.

I think he also said he uses BT a lot, which I've heard is a huge battery eater.

Are you using BT much?
