Does anyone know if this phone will be able to be tethered to a notebook to utilize the EV-DO connection?

Why?

This phone will have Bluetooth in it and WI-FI. you could use either one of them to do this connection as long as Verizon will let us or if someone fixes the problem. Like they are doing with the Treo 650.

According to Verizon NO EVDO phones can be tethered to a notebook. They just aren't going to make cables for it or support it and they will turn off EVDO phones that are downloading constantly or are downloading to much information.

This is a big issue for me also - with the bluetooth being crippled to prevent it from being used as a modem, it seems crazy to think that Verizon would you the phone like a modem via USB port or something. However, it will have a cable to sync with your computer and will be running a windows platform, so maybe windows will see it as a modem. As nice as this phone looks, for $500-$600, it might be a deal breaker for me if i can't get my laptop online while traveling.

You may want to check out the AudioVox XV6600 forum and phone. Some of the things they do may also work on the i730.

I contacted the VZN Data people with your same issue and a guy there told me that the XV6600 could be used as a modem via Bluetooth only, not cable. While the XV6600 has a lot of issues, this may be it's big selling point, especially if the i730 can't be used.

As I think teusch40 said, you have to watch your usage and keep it within what would be expected for a PDA, or VZN will start sending nasty messages, put you on probation, or cancel your EVDO service.
