Using the i730 to keep up with emails in outlook
I am a novice when it comes to this, but I want this phone for a number of reasons. One of which is to be able to send and receive emails from the phone. What do I need in order to do this for work? Do I just need the exchange server information? A coworker mentioned I would need a VPN or something. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, to use the Blackberry component of the phone, you'll need an Exchange server. You could also just have the Verizon mail exchange grab mail off your POP server with "Leave it on server" enabled as well as configuring your Outlook to do the same if it stays open while you're gone. Have Outlook delete it after so many days, though. Problem with the POP set-up is all your spam now goes to the phone, too. I get over 100 pieces of spam a day (after server filter) and I can't afford that kind of time-killing exercise.

To use Blackberry component you need a blackberry server. Plus, as far as I know the blackberry feature of this phone has not been confirmed by verizon.
POP3 mail retrieval is an option, however I would advise trying the other two first, as they are much more convenient.
1. Check to see if your mail account is on Exchange 2003, and then you can just use the phone to connect and sync your mail, contacts, calendar.
2. If you can afford to have a computer with Outlook client always on and on-line, you can use Verizon's wireless sync client, and it will talk to your phone and sync your mail, contacts, calendar.

From a reliable source...
At this time the i730 will not support Blackberry Connect.

The About Microsoft Outlook panel says it's Outlook 2003 (11.6359.****) Does this mean it's on a Exchange 2003 server? Basically, all I want to know is do I need my IT dept to set something up? Or can I find the exchange server information then input that into the phone. Also, I can have my computer on all the time, but then it locks. Does this mean Outlook is not accessible when it's locked?

You'll need the vpn if you want to sync via verizon's network. Over wi-fi at your office you wouldn't.
I've never actually bothered sending email from a pocket pc, I haven't had the opportunity to use a keyboard on one.
If pocket outlook supports pop or imap you'll need to enter you exchange server settings there. You may also be able to use activesync to sync directly with the exchange server (in effect sending and receiving mail).
If the i730 support Windows Mobile 5.0 when it comes out, service pack 2 for exchange 2003 will enable the i730 to send and receive mail like a blackberry.

Well, I just realized that I can view my emails, contacts, and appointments for work through a web-based portal. What type of web page will be supported on the i730?
