Camera Option

In the past three days I have spoken to two different sales reps at two different verizon wireless locations. They both have told me the exact same info. They say that the i730 will be released with both a camera and none camera option at the same time. Not only did they say there WILL be a camera, but it will be 3.2 megapixel. It sounded impossible to me since the highest out now is under 2 megapixel. I figured the first guy was just confused, but the second rep assured me that this is true!

Willya,

There is no way they are right. It is not coming out with a 3.2 megapixel camera. That you can be sure of. That it might come out with a camera at the original release it possible but from what I heard unlikely that the camera version will be out later. Of course, you can never tell till its out as things are always changing but 3.2....no way.

That is exactly what I said, but they both informed of the same info at 2 different places. There must be something out that they are reading. She said it was on the internal verizon site. It was kinda funny, but she mentioned that she is not supposed to know about it. It was weird!

I think the initial launch to b2b won't have the camera at all. But this can hold true for the consumer launch. So wait about antoher month or so to see if this hold true. Otherwise, b2b's will be out of luck without the camera.

and for 3.2, i don't think so, 1.3, believable as they mention before, but 3.2, hell i don't thing they would go that far , plus pricing and electronics are hard factors. too.

This phone will have no Camera option ever.

That's the first suggestion I've seen of there never being a camera option. I've been under the (easily challenged) impression that VZW is just targeting 2 different consumer pops in separate releases: No-camera for Enterprise customers in June - then possibly a camera version coming out for individual consumers toward the end of the year.

Why do you say that? Samsung engineered one in, right? Would it just be Verizon's strategic direction to not market this device with its camera?

To retain a market for the Audiovox 6600, Verizon will NOT put a camera into the i730. If you are in need of a camera PDA, go w/ the 6600, if not, the i730 is a better option.

Thanks for the reply... Interesting thought - makes sense, sadly.

I wonder though, why then would Samsung partner with a service-provider who was going to forever shelve a feature of their device, that they spent R&D $$ to engineer-in?

Looked at the 6600 and just didn't care for the form-factor.

Would you NOT buy the Samsung if it does not have the camera? No, you would still buy it. VZW knows people will buy the i730 regardless of it having a camera or not. Also, please show me any documentation that confirms that a camera has been engineered for this phone, because I have not found any yet. Its speculation.

Well, since you ask, please look at this link concerning the i730. (Link at bottom) If you look at the second and third picture, that looks a little documented to me! RYCO where do you come up with your info? I will admit, you had me worried, but anyone that knows anything about the sammy, knows that it has had the camera feature. I am sticking to my guns, there will be a camera. I will go further, on consumer release, there will be both options! No hidden agenda or anything!

Here is another link to pics of the camera version. Someone, I think in another thread, asked "would you NOT buy the phone without the camera?". I would not spend $600 on a phone without a camera. That's alot of money to spend on a phone without a now basic feature.

But it's not a phone. It's phone/internet viewer/universal remote/MP3-Video Player. Plus a whoooole lot of other stuff depending on the software. I'd like the camera especially if it were more than 1.3 MP. It's not a make or break for me either way as the camera would probably suck anyway.

vinnyc, i agree, phone should have come with a camera. Though it's uncertain if the camera version of this phone will be out or not, that is all but what time can answer i guess. I bought the phone mainly because i do more business on it, and i don't really take pictures that much anymore (thus why i bought a sony t7 to carry around). so there is justification f...

To answer your question, I wouldn't buy the i730 without a camera, because I would use it for both work and personal uses. The better the camera the better. I could lug around another device (d-camera) but why? If you want to carry a lot of stuff around, why are you even on this forum. You should stick with a separate phone blue toothed to a separate PDA and a separate IR keyboard.
I like mobility, and having a phone, PDA with high speed Internet and built in keyboard, and a built in MP camera with flash in a single pocket sized device is very attractive to me.

I say that you shouldn't listen to anyone source unless they are reputable and have pictures. The fact that someone told you there would be a 3.2 megapixel camera on this phone just shows that the rumors flying around are totally outrageous.

These rumors came from 2 separate reps at a verizon store. They said it was on the internal verizon web. Again, I do not think there will be a 3.2 megapixel, but I find it strange that I got the same info from different people (Actual verizon reps, not just some forum people). I am going to try and get a copy of what they have on the vzw iweb. I want to know for myself.
