Bluetooth Headset Testing w/ 8100 - Found one I think

I realize this is a thread that's gone on in various places for a while but I thought some newbies (and oldies) alike might like another datapoint.

After trying essentially 'every' BT headset that VZW offered (and as such I got the 2-wk trial with) I think I've got one I might actually keep... the Plantronics 320.

I've tried the early Motos (850 and it's predecessor), the Jabra 250 w/ and w/o vibrate, etc. They haven't gotten in the H700 Moto yet but H500 was so-so. And up until now, my fave's been my good 'ol $15 AT&T *corded* headset with little boom. Works great.

The biggest issue for me was the caller hearing their own voice echo back to them a half-second later. Yes, you could drop the volume down but then the thing was ess...

You should try the logitech. most people that I know with them ride bikes and they say it cuts out all the wind.

Which one? And how does it sit in the ear? This is the first one that's so light it doesn't feel like it's even there... and directs the sound into the ear without physically really 'touching' the ear canal. I've tried the ones like the crap Jabra 250V which wraps the back of the ear and that was just a pain to pop on and off and felt like a growth. The higher-end Plantronics with full DSP even look good since they have essentially Bose active noise-cancellation technology BUT they stick directly in your ear with these gell things. Ick. Unlike now, where I can listen to the car stereo and not feel like there's a finger in my ear, many of these block off the ambient sound. Also, w/o the DSP stuff, this claims an 8 hr talk time... seems...

It's the logitech mobile traveler SE. I'm by no means a bluetooth expert. I just listen to what customers say. I've seen every headset in my store come back with the exception of this one. (with exception of general pairing questions). One of my co-workers rides a Harley and she talks on hers while she's riding. Hows that for noise cancelation!?!?

Sweet... I'll give it a shot then. My 14-days are up this weekend I believe. So I'll do a swap and give it a shot...

I'll give you my opinion after a few days... I hope it fits as well. The little ear thingy just seems less impacting that the foam pad on the Logitech... but you never know until you try...

what about the feedback echo? I have the Jabra JBT350V and the echo is ridiculous. I kept it too long to take it back because I actually forgot about it once my people complained about it. Put it away and work work work got in the way so I didn't stay in my 15 days. I'm willing to get this new one if there's no echo problem.

That's exactly what I found in the 250V I tested months ago... so i wasn't even going to try the 350V. I found feedback in all the Motos as well.

The Plantronics totally solved the echo issues quite nicely and was super loud. It just had such a sensitive pickup that any wind (even the breeze while walking slowly) would get picked up. Not horrible... but since I had time to play within my 15 day window I liked the recommendation to try the Logitech.

So... I picked it up at lunch today and will report after a full charge, pairing and some testing. Essentially looks like the Plantronics, except with a foam ear pad and patented "windblocker" technology mic. Also, the back says "designed for LG and Samsung devices" so I'm quite hopeful...

I haven't heard of any echo problems. No most new headsets will allow you to hear yourself talk, but there shouldn't be a delay. Have you had time to charge and pair it yet????

Okay... first report on the Logitech SE. I think "CRAP" sums it up pretty well. Going away from the wonderful ear canal-type mount on the Plantronics this one is back to full-on echo for all my callers and they all complained about hearing themselves speak (as with previous others with just a plain earpad).

Also, I don't know who was smoking what with this "windblocker" crap but whereas it seemed to work decently for my callers (they couldn't hear wind) *I* got HUGE amounts of wind-related crackle whenever I'm outside.

Lastly, it's un-useable in indoor environments... like say, Starbucks... because the thing doesn't zero in on the talkers voice but rather the twenty other people in Starbucks... making it difficult as heck (for my cal...

I can't believe quality control is 'that' bad on these electronics. I honestly thing the ergonomics of this headset is pretty good. The way you turn up/down the volume is great, the ability to mute, the fact that it doesn't just beep but plays a little song when ringing, etc.

However... the functionality of just about any type of these things that combines a flat ear "pad" and a high gain mic is bound to run into similar issues with echo. Every time I get it loud enough to be useable in the car (over road/wind noise at highway speeds) they get annoyed with me about echo. Happened with all but the Plantronics... which was so loud to me at time I needed to crank it down. These things also don't seem to have good enough electronics to p...

if you had to rate the headsets at verizon how would you stack them up??? I really interested to know which one was the best, worst, and comment on all of em..if you don't mind. Just to get a gage of what you like and don't.

It's funny since they all rank better in certain areas. For example, I tried both of the available Motos at the time and thought the 850 had the most natural quality sound and decent bluetooth range (I actually could get 20-30 feet before it got staticky)... but as is typical for the flat earpad types there was horrible echo for the caller. Plus it was almost too quiet at max volume for car usage. Wind noise wasn't horrible but pretty bad.

Then I tried the Jabra 250V and while it seemed to work okay voicewise, it was a little too quiet also and had all kinds of static issues just being on my belt. Wind noise was awful.

Next came the Plantronics 320 and like I said I'd put this one at the top of my list so far for an overall rank. ...

Okay... final "test" during lunch today... I took my normal walk of a mile or so and outside the reception is SO crappy that trying to understand the voice commands is nearly impossible. I hit the button and get "p---e s---te a c------md" and I just said heck with it. It seems to understand me but with feedback that horrible 'prior' to the call, why even make the call?

What a pain...

At this point it isn't worth stacking... the plantronics was the only one 'bearable' but I'll still continue to search for something at least one click better before I commit 🙂

Okay, I picked up a Motorola H700 yesterday and thought I'd give feedback on this one. First off, no, I'm not sure I'll keep it or not at this point. It isn't what I've expected, although this is the first fully DSP-equipped headset that I've added to my test (the 6th headset I've tested).

Form factor is very nice and comfort is good. This bugger is very small and extremely light. The ability for the boom to control the bluetooth link being active or not is really nice and easy to use, the volume controls work well, and she gets extremely loud.

Judging by some reports from some equally anal friends of mine, the DSP works "so-so". They could hear it kicking in now and then and blocking out the ambient noises. My stress test was a ...

FYI (to anyone still caring) -

I returned the H700 on the *exact* 30th day of my full cash-back return limit to Radio Shack. I took it on a road trip to Vegas and back east and while it worked "okay" that's just it, "okay." Most people I called said I sounded like I was talking through a tube and super loud. Noise cancellation was a joke since this thing could only be used in absolutely quiet environments. Even while in the car, if I had the A/C fan on, even on the absolute slowest speed, it sounded (to them) like I had my windows down. Ridiculous in a quiet brand-new luxury sedan. So she went back... and I await the new batch of them coming out from VZW. They said they're expecting 1 or 2 at the store soon, and I'll continue to ch...

Well... after being disgruntled with the state of affairs for just about 'every' BT headset I tried (6 thus far)... I finally saw my local VZW store carrying a #7 that I've been eyeing in various reviews for quite a while... the Plantronics 655 with full DSP/AudioIQ... and you know what? This 'may' just be a keeper!

On the upside, VZW decided to up their no-hassle return policy from 14 to 30 days so I now can play for a month with it... but thus far it's the clearest thing i've ever heard and the DSP actually works. As far as the user of the ear bud, it's nearly perfect. Plenty loud, pretty comfy, and static free, especially when talking. As far as others I've called, most people think i'm on a land line until the wind picks up signif...
