Version 5 for real?!

piggys

Sep 27, 2005, 7:15 AM
In one of my previous posts, someone mentioned hearing about (from Verizon Support) a Version 5 software update being out - but their local store hadn't heard of it.

Does anyone know anything about this?

No clue how this response has anything to do with the thread topic.

AFAIK version 5 isn't out yet. I'm told its being worked on, but I have no idea when it could be released.

At the least I would expect it to address the file name limitation for mp3's on the SD card and possibly the 10MB size limit as well.

Well, thanks. I called and asked one of the local stores and they said in a week or two. Actually only one person knew about it. I was told it'd be a "general" update. Okay...

Anyone happen to know any specifics b/c I sure don't. All I really care about is that daggone earpiece volume fluctuation. I know some people haven't had any problems with that and have offered suggestions, however, I still have the problem. Doesn't seem that my local stores know anything about the problem and *if* I were to take it in and they were to find a problem and replace the phone, I'd end up with a refurbished phone - uh, no thanks!

I've tried calling LG and so forth and so on and I just am not having any luck. I'm almost ready to call LOCKLINE a...

I don't think it's a question of NOT KNOWING there's a problem.. I think they are just not ADMITTING it!! They know there's a problem with volume.. many, many 8100 owners have complained about it!! 😡

I'm guessing it's not going to fix the camera delay?

She DID confirm that a v05 software update is currently being made. They have no E.T.A. on it yet but a few things it is supposed to address are:

- Phone continuing to ring while set to vibrate only

- BT headsets not transmitting audio while phone is plugged into a charger

- The issues (don't know specifics) with certain camera settings

- Volume fluctuations on the earpiece

This is not the complete list, but it's all...

I'm on my second phone, and both had the volume issue. Most notable when I have a headset plugged into the jack on the side (and only when speaking on the phone, not when listening to the mp3's with headphones). I don't think getting a new phone will help. The delay on the camera is also real, and is really bad. I hope the new software update will resolve both issues.

Anyone know when Version 5 will be out? I tell you what, it's sometimes hard getting an answer from Verizon stores! They told me it would be out - one place said in a week or two, another store said, "We know that they're working on it, but we don't know when we'll have it."

I also found out that the stores are not obliged to do anything that Customer Service (the 1-800 #) says. I spoke with someone in Customer Service this past weekend (which, I will have to say, Customer Service has really been getting better. I've noticed *most* people are very friendly, etc.) about the issues with the 8100 and so forth and so on. The woman told me that they can notate the account (ex.: exchange for a brand new phone after the 15 day period - 30 d...

The people who tell you that they don't know are the most honest. I'd give 1000:1 odds that anyone you talked to and gave you some sort of date just said that to satisfy you for the moment.

As much testing as VZW does don't hold your breath for Version 5. Its quite possible Nov 1 will come and go and we will still be running V4.

I thought these issues were fixed with v4? Am I missing something?

Well, everything except the fluctuating volume thing for me (as well as that camera delay problem). I can *deal* with the camera thing, just not the volume issue. Some people don't have the volume problem. I still do. It's strange, but evidently I'm not the only one.

Plus, one tech I talked to said that as far as he knew, it'd be a "general" software update to help the phone run better - whatever that means.

I'm pretty sure I never had the volume problem, although I thought I did when I first got the phone. So maybe for those that had the problem already, v4 did nothing. Although there have been reports to the contrary as I recall.

What exactly is the camera bug?

I def have the volume issue, before and after the V4 update. It's a big pain in the a**, esp when using a wired headset. They need to fix that. The camera on this phone is terrible, big delay between when you press the ok button to take the pic, and when it actually snaps the shot. The pics look really grainy on the screen as well, although I can't be sure how they come out on the other end. Both are known and I guess common problems.
