What problems with the 8100? Mine has been perfect since day 1! I use it as my mp3 player, i have 4 full length movies on it, personalize and make my own ringtones with bitpim, and the phone takes good pictures (outdoors at least). I love it!

However, I am interested in the new phones, when are they hitting the market?

LG8300 (VX8300) is the successor of the popular VX-8100, offered from Verizon at the moment. It plays music through built-in stereo speakers or through Bluetooth (it supports A2DP profile for stereo sound via Bluetooth). The VX-8300 delivers internet access through high-speed EV-DO networks and features GPS positioning system. The 8300 also features 1.3-megapixel camera and advanced voice recognition. The VX-8300 was approved by the FCC in March.

Honestly, its great that its a little slimmer, BUT I was really hoping for an internal antenna. Also, I really like the blue silver color of the 8100 and am not a big fan of the all black of the 8300.

It looks alright, the all black is a good change, but I do like the blue. the only good thing might be is you don't see scratches. I want to know if you can use speaker phone with the shell closed, if anyone knows fill us in. Thanks

the new customizable ui will be nice, the dark color is great, looks a little more prfessional, stereo bluetooth supports suggest it will be at leaste 1.2 bluetooth and hopefully they will have the bugs worked out of it. Size is a little slimmer that is nice. The two things that worry me!
1st why noy up the camera resolution, 2-5 megapixel camera phones are right around the corner and lg kept this at 1.3?
2nd Most of us using the 8100 have switched version 7 over to use mp3, these new headsets coming out will come loaded with verizon's music servcie so we will have to see if and how easy it will be to convert it over to use our own music.

I have to say i am a little disapointed, hopefully they have something else sneaking in their a lit...

In my opinion, using WMA as your music listening option is far superior to using the mp3 player, tons more functionality, categorization issues etc. more like an ipod, sounds just as good. And conveting your mps's to WMA's is automatic. You can have your mp3's in the WMP library, and then when you sync your phone, it converts them to WMA's automatically at it puts them on your phone. Very easy. I'd rethink your concerns about mp3's as far as Verizon phones go. They've made it plenty easy to put your own songs (in any format) on their phone, so use the player that's designed for their phones and systems.

thank you for the pep talk, but i have 1000's of mp3's, it doesn't get much easier than grabbing a bunch, dropping them into the folder on the card, slapping the card in and wam. I don't mind the wav, i think the music on demand is pretty cool feature, i just like being able to do both on the 8100. I am just lloking at the big picture, those of us that purchased this phone way back in the day will remember all the problems, software issues, bluetooth issues, music player issues, couldn't set crap as ringers, all the hack info was slow to come out and many were very ticked during the first 3 months of this phone. I still loved mine, but many brought theirs back and went with the 710-815 or other models. I just fear this happening all over aga...

I agree, no need to upgrade to this phone for those features, however the more Verizon gets wedded to WMP as music software, and WMA files as the preferred file type, the more likely it will be to design new features with that in mind. I prefer mp3's at this point as well, since I can drag them onto the card and play them, vs. the cumbersome method of having to tranfer WMA's to the phone via sync in order to listen to them and be able to catalog them. I'm hoping that at least that will be resolved in future phones. For me, I think WMA's and WMP will be the way everything heads.

Yea the internal intenna is good, i have that on my 9800 and i get great reception, my 8100 wasn't as good in basements and buildings but it was ok. I'm hoping this has better signal than the 8100. I'm debating on giving up the 9800 for it when it comes out.

Was just in a Verizon store the other day and asked about the 8300. There will be other differences, including the ability to make playlists in WMP 10, then transfer them to your phone (w/the 8100 you have to make them on the phone, takes forever, and they can only be 25 songs max). Very good feature if you use your phone as a music player. Stupid that's it's not avail for the 8100. 8300 will prob mean no more firmware upgrades for the 8100.

I don't see a nedd for WMA playlists!!! I have the 9800 and i love the MP3 feature and i'm happy that it can't get the software to play WMAs!! MP3s are free WMAs arn't. And i refuse to buy edited, cencered, WMA music (with a WMA license) from Vcast music. Then if you get a replacement phone you have to redownload all your songs because they are licensed...a complete waste of time and money...i'm good with my 9800

You don't have to buy WMA's!!!! You do if you download them from your phone, but that's it. You can put all your MP3's into WMP10 and they will be converted to WMA's automatically. You can also download a free converter to convert MP3's into WMA's. There your regular MP3's, not licensced, not censored, not edited!!!!!!!!!!

When you purchase music from your phone you et a copy on your phone and to your computer, or you can get them straight from computer and load them into phone, so you don't have to repurchase them with a replacement becasue you will still have the songs(and liscense for them)...

Sorry, I am confused, I am thinking of purchasing the 8100 or 8300 if it comes out soon...

Can you play mp3s as mp3s without buying them from Verizon?

Do you need to convert them to WMA?

On the 8300 you WILL have to use WMA's, not MP3's, but you don't have to buy them from Verizon. You can convert your own MP3's to WMA's in Windows Media Player 10 or download a free converter, convert them to WMA's then just drag and drop them into the MY_MUSIC folder on the card.

or just buy the music essentials kit, only $30 bucks you get headphones usb cable and software, either way it isn't that tricky. The 8100 will allow you to drop them in music folder without the purchase of the essentials kit like Mary said, but who can be certain on the 8300 you might have to get the kit to do, probably not but can't say%100 until we have it.

Cool looking phone, i like the look better then the 8100 but is that all there will be? And it doesnt look any thinner then the 8100, it will have to be a big difference for me to upgrade other then the black color. But so far just looking at it really doesnt turn me on. Especially cause they are still going to use that 1.3megapixel camera!!! What the hell is up with that.. give with the new age and give me the 2.5!

I love my 8100, it is little bulky though with a clip on it.. wish i could find a clip that didnt have the deep pocket for large battery.

8300 is slimmer, i have held it next to a 8100. The biggest difference is the displays, they are amazing and even more clear than the 8100, flash ui is also sweet, but i agree they should have upped the camera, moved bluetooth from v1.1 to version 1.2 and the 8300 will not allow text viewing on the front(not sure what genius took that feature off)
