i was contemplating getting an 8100 to replace my 8000
what i usually did with my 8000 is use fun for mobile to upload mp3 snips to my phone which would come through as picture messages on my phone and i could save those as my ringtones.
yet on this website they dont have the 8100 as a model that is compatible with performing this task,
yet, the new samsung a950 and the new razr v3c are compatible and can be utilized. what is it about the 8100 that makes it unable to work with the task?
thanks

verizon makes it not work becasue they are a bunch of evil kids burning ants with a magnifying glass. just grab a data cable it is pretty easy and save your pix messaging charges.

I have wondered the same thing. Most everyone says thing like "becasue Verizon is greedy", etc. etc. etc. but that doesn't make any sense when some phones allow it and otherd don't.

There are a few differenet folders on the phone. One is my sounds. The my sounds folder allows you to put sounds into it Ex: pix message audio. You can go into this folder anytime and play those sounds, however they cannot be set as ringtones. There is an entirely different foldder for ringtones and you cannot move files from my sounds to the ringtones folder from the phone. Mp3 are then stores on a totally seperate folder on memory card and cannot be moved to my sounds folder or ringtones folder either. So in short the only way to get audio into the ringtones folder is download it from Verizon's screw you now service or get a data cable.

why they set it up that way is a mystery, my guess is in the intial sofware setup verizon was concerned with people setting mp3 as ringtones so put a lock on all the sound folders and in the process blocked the ability to send audio ringtones into your ringtones folder through pix messaging.

When I called LG Customer Service to inquire about not being able to have My Sounds set as Ringtones, they said it had to do with a software update on their end. I didn't even mention I was a Verizon Employee or customer.

HI!
What do you mean get a data cable? I have a cable that connects my phone to the computer. I moved the sounds to the computer and then back to the phone and still they sent into the sounds folder...this is so not-right. there has to be a way to get tones from phonezoo inrto the ringtones folder. I've done it before with a different phone. My current, flip shot 900, won't let me. Obviously your won't either. Verizon now charges per kilobyte so it is expensive to download music, as data, to your phone. Any other ideas? Anyone???

I was able to use BitPim and Data cable to transfer MP3 files to mine just fine. Head to radion shack and get a data cable.
