camdawg

Nov 29, 2005, 7:10 PM
I just got the V.5 update it does get rid of the camera delay for those that care. I just bought the A-950 for my aunt on sale. also and you can talk on speaker when closed. Does anyone know if V.6 will allow this. The 8100 is getting better and better.

How long has this update been out? How long does it take?
I haven't been checking this board as diligently as I used to. I just don't want to go to a store and tell me they don't know anything about it.

Sorry For keeping you waiting been busy. I went to my local Verizon store make sure it's the real store and not on in the mall or in Radio Shack or in Circuit City go to the real thing. I went there and he said this version % just came out and I live in Texas. I did not lose anything on my phone because I have my phone set to ssave everything to the memory card so just take the card out. There is a chance you could lose things on the phone but verizon will give you the money for ringers. Bitpims should be on the card only. It only took 20 min. Thanks see ya

To me the update only helped the camera delay which everyone is complaining about. I don't use the camer that often to care but it did help. Iam hoping that if there is a V.6 you can close the phone on speakerphone, then this phone would be PERFECT.

camdawg, did you know that you can get the speakerphone to work with the flip closed.? 😎
All you need is an earpiece/headset...
You place a call with the speakerphone, plug in the headset, close the flip then remove the headset... 😛 Voila ! Speaker with flip closed. 🙄

Yeah I have done that but that's not a real way to do things, the samsung a-950 does it legit. it is a very nice phone but the outside screen is worthlesss.

Does an incoming call still stop MP3 Playback, or does it now pause?
...
camdawg

if the phone is closed it stops it but if open you can ignore the call and it goes back to mp3, but mainly it does just stop the mp3 player.

Ok listen here. I live in El Paso Texas and we have V.5 I went to our store and they updated it. The only thing I have noticed that it fixed was the camera delay, Iam not one to use the camera often so I really don't care but it did improve from V.4 That is all that I can tell you and the verizon screen at the store said for the description on what the update fixes is, to fix common malfunctions irregularities(big word). It did not specify what it fixed. Thank you

I don't have the camera delay, so I don't care about that. Wish Verizon could be more specific on what it fixes. I don't want to waste my time if it only involves the camera, but then again, I do want to have the latest update on my phone. If anyone has any definate info on what it fixes, please post. Thanks! 🙂

all 8100's have the delay, put it on the largest resolution, its there. Take a picture, move the camera slightly and it is not what you took the picture of. Even 640x480 is delayed a bit.

I went to the store here in TN and no go. v5 is not out yet.

Its always the same story, only test stores get the updates first. They look for feedback then they dish out to all the stores. Same bullshit, same system.

v5 should of been on the phone to begin with. This is my 3rd phone and dam it even if they fix the camera (which will make me really happy), i really wish they would fix the #1 problem, the earpiece volume. Maxed and still cant hear **** unless its another 8100 caller.

I guess the other thing that V.5 corrects is a problem with the Motorola HS850 bluetooth headset which was apparently caused by V.4. It's not out here yet, but that's the information on the update sheet from the rep at the Verizon store.

Bitpim is used to transfer info to your phone (ringtones, etc.) and you can download it here:
http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/#download, » then you will need either a data cable or a Bluetooth USB adapter to connect your phone to your PC. If you download Bitpim and go to the help section there is a lot of info that should answer any other questions you should have about it.

I have a customer who is adventurous. He seems to have aquired the v06 software and flashed his phone with it.

I held it side by side with my own 8100 (v04) and noticed a few things.

The camera: I know lots of you complain about the speed on high resolutions. I can confirm on the v06 phone the pics did take faster on both 1280 and 640 resolutions, it was not a world of difference but it was an improvement.

Camera #2: Better quality, yes it was sharper. We were at a local restaurant getting ready to order, I had both phones looking at the menu text, I thought the v06 looked better and gave both of the phones to the 2 other guys with us (they didnt know which phone was which), I asked if one looked better, they both pointed to the one...

thanks for the excellent info! Two quesstions:
#1 Re playlists, does your customer know if the playlist feature will only be available for MOD, or is it a feature of the player that can be used for music you load onto your card.
#2 Any clue as to when it will come out?

#1 Currently looks like MOD only, but it could easily be implemented into std mp3.

Does version 5 have nothing to do with the MOD part of this? I wouldn't mind updating for a little help with the camera delay, but i'd prefer to stay away from the MOD software. From what i understand it all functions on WMA instead of MP3. I could be wrong here but just wondered what everyone else had heard. I just don't feel like having to convert every file before i load it on the phone.

I've read that you can't launch the player from the front of the phone wtih v 6, correct? So you can still play mp3's, you just need to launch the player through a laborious series of button pushing?

My presumtion (and I could be wrong) is that the front button mp3 player functionality will be in place for v06. It may just not be present in the versions we've seen so far. It could go either way....

I feel your pain Hockeydog, seems like the updates roll from east to west. We always seem to get it last. I've stopped asking, surprisingly when v.4 came out I got a post card a few weeks later telling me that it was available. Even though it was late it was nice to be notified. I hope they do the same thing this time around.

The answer is this...certain people have the new version. It doesn't fix any of the problems when it comes to camera delay and bluetooth echoing and I almost forgot, the dreaded volume bug. My personal feeling on the volume bug is that it's a hardware problem, not software.

For those of you who say there is no camera delay, see a doctor. It has a delay, no question about it. I didn't use my camera that much do I didn't really care about the delay.

Well, if the update doesn't fix any of the problems, we should definitely consider a class-action-suit. VZW will keep 'playing' their customers if nothing is done to stop them. It just goes to prove they don't give a s**t. LG should also be named as a co-conspirator. VZW software, if that is the culprit, is the same for 'all' phones now & future. What about an individual lawsuit? Has anybody ever tried that? 🤣
