sorry if this has already been addressed in the forum before, i looked but i didnt see it.

Has anyone else noticed that there phone wont go into EVDO mode after the update? because my phone used to be in EVDO mode almost all the time in high service areas, but now i've noticed that it never does anymore. I've even held my phone next to another vx8100 before it had the update and it had EVDO service and my phone still didn't... does anyone know if it has been disabled in the update, and if so, then why?
Thanks.

Do you have VCast on your phone? A lot of people who have the update and no VCast wont show EVDO since your technically subscribed to EVDO service.

no i dont have VCast, but i dont see why they would disable the indicator just because i dont pay for VCast. i mean if my phone is in an EVDO service area, you'd think the indicator would still be there, just not really mean anything right?...
Plus i thought EVDO service would help for other things besides VCast (like get it now)... or is it strickly for VCast?

EVDO was mainly made for VCast, I have it, have the update and have the EVDO indicator, one of our tech support reps at work has the update, no VCast, no EVDO indicator. Seems like Verizon is keeping the EVDO for peope that actually pay for it so its not slowed down by people sending TXT and PIX messages and Get It Now.

i see... that kinda pisses me off because if the EVDO service works with get it now and txt/pix messages and not just VCast, then they should allow non-VCast phones to use it for non-VCast functions.

plus i downloaded Need for Speed Underground 2. (excellent game) but it has to download most levels before you can play, which takes a minute or two without EVDO service so im sure with EVDO service it would be much faster. so im gettin ripped off in that respect two... but oh well, i guess i can wait the extra minute or two

NFS2 with EVDO is fast... have you tried VCast, were still doing the promo for 1st month free.. if havent tried, should call customer service and ask them to put it on, if you ask them to, they may even set a follow up form for you and pull it off on the 30th day so your not charged.

yeah i thought about getting VCast for a month to see whats on it and all. but im afraid that i might not cancel it in time and get charged with one month of it. plus its a pain to call up verizon and change your service around. although if they automatically pulled me off after a month so i didnt get charged then i'd probibally do it. because VCast seems really cool and all, but 15 bucks a month is a little to much for me.

Dude, I had this exact same problem. My guess is that you cannot dial *228, or *22899, either, can you? Take your phone back to the VZW store that did the upgrade, and tell them they did not load the "tower list" to your phone. It should not take more than 5 minutes for them to fix the problem. After that, you will have an awesome phone with mp3 player, et al.

I just got the update the other day and after reading this post, I realized I haven't had the 'EV' indicator since then either.
So for the hell of it, I just tried *228 and hit 2.
Worked like a charm! After the phone reset, the
'EV' came on.
Btw, anyone else notice way better battery life since the update?

hmm... i just called *228 like 5 times and every time i just got a busy signal. Are there only certain hours when it works? or are too many people calling *228 at once (because it is a busy signal)? Or is the problem with my phone?

Houston you have a problem.

I believe you should still get the EV indicator on your phone if everything is set correctly. After all when I set someone up with an EVDO/Vcast capable phone I always add the Premium Network Service feature that is required for EVDO phones.

I would power cycle your phone and try *228 again. If that still fails then take it to the store.

You guys rock! - I was having the same issue - no EVDO service after the update. *228 worked like a charm. 😁 Habitatskater, it sounds like you have a larger issue, I have never gotten a busy signal when dialing *228. Ultima's right - take it to the store and have a tech check it out.

Thanks for the help - Rob

if anyone still isn't receiving the indicator check the mode preference.
hit menu
000000
3 "network select"
1 "mode preference"
and make sure it is set to "digital only hybrid"
this will search for regular and high speed connections. on the other hand, if you're not going to use the broadband at all i'd recommend setting it to "digital only non hybrid" to save some battery life.
