i live in sacramento ca and i called the verizon store and the lady i talked to said it was going to be out tomorrow, she also said the volume control would be fixed, the text message thing would be fixed, and that the battery issue would be fixed so heres hoping

because its like installing windows xp on your computer.. its software that needs to be loaded onto the phone with their system or w/e they use

Actually, if I had to guess, a better analogy would be them reinstalling the bios on a computer. From what I gather, they're going to wipe the phone clean and then reinstall all the software.

More accurate.... It backs up the info, wipes a clean slate, and re-writes the OS. The *228 only updates a small file called a PRL, (Preferred Roaming List). All is, is a list of System Identifiers (called SID's) and weather or not each one is Home, Extended Network, or Roam. It's really a small file, and really has no bearing on the function of the phone other than preferring a home signal over a roam signal.

I dont have the volume problem. Nor the vibrate prob.

My concern is that if it is a hardware problem will verizon replace them or not. I am still inside my 15 days so I am trying to figure out if I should trade it or not. If it was a software problem I would not be worried about it but if it is a hardware problem where does that leave us ????????

I AM USING THE PHONE WITH NO VOLUME ISSUES BUT WHAT I DID HAVE WAS THIS ALL OF A SUDDEN AFTER USING VCAST MY PICTURES AND VIDEOS WERE GONE MY PICTURES HAD A CLIPBOARD WITH A QUESTION MARK MY VIDEO WAS GONE NOTHING THEY COULD DO WOULD GET RID OF IT. ONE VERIZON STORE SAID I HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT UNTIL THE SOFTWARE UPDATE COMES OUT SO THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM I COULD LIVE WITH IT IT WAS ONLY 5 PICTURES BUT THOSE CLIPBOARDS WERE ANNOYING SO I WENT TO ANOTHER VERIZON STORE THEY TRIED TO RESET PHONE IT WAS STILL THERE THEY GAVE ME A NEW 8100 NO PROBLEM THIS PHONE SEEMS DIFFERENT ITS EVERN HOLDING A CHARGE LONGER ITS THE SAME SW VERSION BUT IT JUST SEEMS MORE SOLID.

That seems to be a contradiction. Why would they want the phone to be able to play mp3's as ringtones when we arent technically supposed to use anything but the GIN ringtones which are .midi or .mid. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Great point. That makes sense. Because if not...are they in meetings at VZW saying...."They are hacking the phone with Bitpim and other software lets make it easier to lose money and enable the phone to play mp3's as ringtones!!

yeah i think people just forget that Verizon is a company and in order for them to survive in this business and make their service better and all that other ****.. they need to be having these side things like MOD and Get It Now.. and vato had a good point we have noooo idea what the prices will be.. im sure that they'll be a lil over priced tho considering get it now.. but why complain we all find a way 2 put our own **** on there anyways

I agree I have stated several times if you can afford this phone then you can afford the accesories, GIN, MOD, etc. I dont hack anything. I pay for my ringtones and will pay for the mp3's when the service is available. (too chicken dont want to screw with warranty) But then again if we are paying $2.99 for a 10-30 sec ringtone I hate to hypothesize on the price of the entire mp3.

I have heard that MOD will be part of the VCast service though. I don't know how much the songs will cost to download, but the price for the MOD service should be included when it comes out.

How would you like it if you got a new Ford and Ford Made it so that you HAD to buy EVERYthing from them?
ie, if you wanted a bike rack you HAD to get it from Ford.
if you wanted radio stations, you HAD to get it from Ford?
if you wanted a cellphone install you HAD to get it from Ford.
On and on, I think the cell phone industry is backwards. We should get the phone from LG and shop around for services, like phone carrier, "v-cast like" services seperatly, not these "total " packages and be locked into their "manipulating schemes".
It seems that the phone is notheing more than a "cash cow" for the carriers.

I feel your pain "plum". But they are a business and they will continue to operate in this fashion until the right person gets upset with them and does something about it. Until then we are slaves to the corporate juggernaut.

That's all well and good but the bottom line for is this. I just want a good phone that works the way it should. I want a phone that can be used for four or five days without a charge, gets GREAT reception, works every time I use it, I can get and keep good volume and is built to last three or four years without any problems. Plain and simple.

By the way I have checked all the stoores in Rochester and they say the update is not coming out tomorrow. Also checked 3 stores in the Buffalo area and they say no also. Just letting you know considering that you are local.

You said you were going to the store to get your update and that a VZW employee said it was out. I am assuming you were hoodwinked by uneducated VZW employees because you havent made a "UPDATE OUT!!!" post. Correct?

My take is that the tech DOES have it (because the guy that answered the phone said he has an 8100, he had the tech flash HIS, and it did enable the front buttons for mp3 playing)
But he cant release it for a week or two.
I repeat that the Tech I talked to the next day said it was version 4.
\Both the guys I talked to seemed aware about the phone and the flash upgrade.
What I can t understand is why it takes so long (45mins to an hour) to flash.
