Anyone tried using those free ringtone websites??

So I tried freeringtones.net and it's $8 for a "lifetime" membership. It said it was compatible with verizon but I didn't see the 8100 listed. The 8000 was listed, so I figured the 8100 would work too. So I downloaded a polyphonic one and I guess it sends a pix message to the phone. Problem is, it asks for option to save and only as my sounds. So of course, since my sounds can't be moved to my ringers, I'm pretty much screwed. Oh I hate how you can't use my sounds as ringers on the 8100 but you could do it on the 8000. I bought the data cable, but I don't want to mess with bitpim or qpst. Is ther any way to get around that and be able to move my sounds as ringers? If not, I guess I'm SOL.

Any help would be appreciated!

I've actually been using www.mp3ringtones4u.com for quite some time now. I've used it for my 6000, 7000, and now my 8100. You will want to get the data cable to get the best use out of it if you are using the 8100. You are able to send the ringtones to yourself through email, however the 8100 will not allow that to be used as a ringtone, that is where the data cable come in, by saving it in the correct directory you can use it as a ring tone. Membership is $12 i believe, but you can request any song that you like as a ringtone, plus nearly any wallpaper you can imagine. They even give you 3 free requests so you can try it out, no string attached. Hope that helps

Thanks SO much for that information. I will check out that website. But quick question, I do have the data cable, but do I need to use the bitpim or qpst in order to move the files like you said? Or do I just need to install the drivers?

Thanks!

Yes, you will have to use either QPST or Bitpim. I prefer QPST myself, but that is just me, you will here people loving or hating either one. QPST can be a little more confusing to set up initially, but there are really good tutorials and links to the QPST sofware on the www.mp3ringtones4u.com website, or you can search for bitpim and get it. Good Luck, let me know if you need more help.

Thanks so much, I will try loading the qpst tonight. I can just find it on a google search right? And do I need to download the drivers for the data cable or will it recognize the qpst program immediately? I noticed the the mp3ringtones4u website also sends the file as a text message, so I think I will still be able to make use of my $8 subscription to freeringtones.net, at least I hope. Also, when I went to the website, I got linked to this site called fun for mobile, is that the same thing? I had a sample of a ringtone sent to my phone already.

When you send them to your phone you have to save them in the Sounds folder on your phone and you cannot use them as ringtones. You will have to use the data cable to get them into the correct directory

Thanks. I tried to install the drivers for the data cable but I think the CD is messed up, it doesn't read anything in the CD drive. Am I screwed or can I still use bitpim with the data cable but without the drivers?

You should be able to search online for the drivers. I know that you can get them from the website that I've been talkin about but you have to be a premium member ($12 one time fee). I would try to search for them first though. Just search for either the 8100 or even the 8000 drivers

Actually I was able to download the driver from the LG website. And I was able to move the "my sound" to a ringtone!! 🙂 I folowed the tutuorial on howard forums on bitpim.

I basically saved the file from my sound to my desktop, and then put that file as a new file in ringtone. Is that similar to how you do it in qpst? And I'm not sure if the setup is similar to qpst, but do I have to delete the my_ringtone.dat and my_ringtonesize.dat file each time I save a sound to ringotone?

Thanks again for your help!

yes you will have to deleat the .dat files in order to get it to work with BitPim as well. I've seen that someone has done some bitpim mods to the new version of Bitpim on HowardForums, and they claim that it will automatically do that then, but i don't remember the download site. I personally prefer QPST for the simple reason that you don't have to overwrite any other songs in order to add something, i know that its easy, but that was definatly a deciding factor for me. You could also get data pilot, that works pretty well plus does several other functions such as the address book, etc.
