15-Day TRIAL PERIOD EXTENDED???

NY8100GUYS

If you return the phone within 15 days and get a replacement, does the 15-day trial period begin again for the replacement phone? 😕

So if you return the old phone on the 15th day, when you walk out the door with the replacement phone, you have no trial period on it? 😡

that's what i am guessing. otherwise you'd have people returning their phones every 14 1/2 days and always have the latest technology.

But I think you can only get the same phone 3 times for defect issues. After that, you have to get a different model (like e815, A970) or a cash refund. If you get a different model, and have defect issues 3 times, you can keep the phone or get a refund. Then all trials are over. 😲

Anyway, that's my understanding. 😎

I'm trying to get someone here to confirm that, particularly someone who has had several returns.

Thanks!! 🙂

I dont know about that. I went into the verizon store on 42nd st and 6th ave (the one in the verizon building), and I asked about their policy - and they said they never heard of this. I dont normally trust the reps in the verizon stores cause they dont know anything, but it would relly help if you could find this policy on their website and put a link to it so that we have some "insurance", if you know what I mean.

A Verizon rep told me that the 15 days starts from the first day you purchase the first phone. So if you exchange it on the 14th day for the same model, you can keep it for one more day before the 15 days are up. If you exchange for a different (which is what I did, I got the 815 first and exchanged for the 8100) phone, then the 2nd exchange can only be for the 2nd phone.

You have 15 days from when you purchase your phone, you can do it every day during that 15 days and get 15 new phones if it's the same model and it's due to defect, but if you change to a different model because you just decide you want one over the other than you can only bring that one back during the 15 days and exchange for the same model if it's due to defect but not to another model if you just don't like it ie: you are only allowed one exchange during the 15 days for change of mind, etc, but endless if it's due to defect. After that if goes under the 1yr. mfg. warranty. If during the warranty time you have returned at least 3 times, then they will offer you a fourth or you can then choose a different model if you choose. Anyway, re...

I returned my 8100 on the 7th day and took a refund. Now when I decide to get the 8100 again (or any other phone), let's say, in a month from now, do I only get 8 days or do I get the 15 days again?

Sorry for this lousy question, but thanks, Mary!!

When you get a refund, it's as if the first transaction never happened. When you get the phone again in a month, the 15 days will start all over again. I know because I did this back in March when I got the 8000. I returned it with the 15 days, and then got the 815 earlier this month. When I returned the 8000 back in March, the 2 year renewal was wiped out and I was back in my old plan. Then I exchanged the 815 for the 8100 a couple of days later. My 15 days are already up, so I can only exchange the 8100 for another 8100 if there is a defect. Hope this answers your question.

you can only exchange a phone once within the fifteen days, its clearly stated. One exchange within the 15 days. If you were buying / returning.... that would probably work two times before you start to run into issues.

That transaction is now complete and final since you got a refund, so even if you purchase something new tomorrow, that is another sale and your 15 days starts for that transaction, even if you re-purchase that same model. Basically, every purchase has it's own 15 days.

My sales receipt says:

"Only one exchange within the first 15 days will be honored, unless the exchange is requested due to defective equipment."

But I repeat my question...

On the 15th day, after I exchange a defective phone, how many days do I get to try the replaced phone, none?

Suppose it, too, is defective, can I then exchange it for a different model?

..... 😕

On that 15th day if you exchange then on the 16th day deem it to be defective and you return it then you get a refurbished phone under the 1yr. manuf. warranty.

I ran into this before with a phone that was past the 15 days by only about a week and was told I was getting a refurbished phone under the manuf. warranty and they assured me that it was just like a new phone, etc. etc. etc. but since I usually pay retail for my phones since I switch so often and had paid retail for this particular one (can't even remember which one now, but know I had paid retail) I argued it and told them I didn't pay so much for a phone only to get a refurbished one, blah blah blah, and ended up that they reluctantly got a new one out of the cupboard and gav...

I have used insurance many many times over the years and I have always recieved the phone in original Verizon box with all accessories, welcome cd, etc. etc. etc. and even the blue covering on the phone! When you get a refurbished phone it comes in a rectangular brown box and you usually even have to use your old battery and battery cover, they only give you the phone itself!

You're talking about a FRU (Field Replacement Unit) phone. The phones from the insurance company come in that box because they are manufacturer refurbs so they can put all that stuff in a new box and put the blue plastic on it.

That is incorrect. I have a friend at Lockline (the insurance provider). But, whatever, believe what you want. But again, think about this: why would anyone buy insurance then pay a $50 deductible only to get a refurbished unit when you can go into Verizon for an entire year and get a refurbished unit for free? ALSO, if they refurbished them, restickered them, etc. etc. etc. then the refurbished one you get from Verizon stores would also be this way and not in a plain brown box. Again, believe what you want. I really don't care. I know my facts.

Well lets see... I WORK for Verizon. You pay for insurance to be able to get a refurbished phone for $50 in case your phone is lost, stolen, dropped in water, run over by a car, etc. Lockline might send new ones but where I work most people have Asurion as the provider. Hope you enjoy living in your naive little world there.

I don't care if you work for Verizon or not, Verizon sells the insurance policy but dosn't oversee it. When you need to make a claim, Verizon dosn't do it for you, you do it on your own, so you working at Verizon dosn't make you an insurance expert, nor does it sound like you have even had ANY experience with Lockline. Your responses to mine are really pi**ing me off. I am on here to get info and answer others questions and try to help others out and only say things I know to be true or if I am not 100% sure I say things like "may be" or "I assume to be" or "in my opinion" etc. You don't need to say I'm naive and get so defensive. You just sound like one of those people who thinks they are right all the time no matter what and don't lik...

Actually, I've seen both types of replacements go both ways. Especially when it's a really new model. Usually the first FRU's are new. Same w/ Insurance. I've taken the time to read over the brochure for the insurance, and it is not necessarily a new handset. It can be, but doesn't have to be. One of my friends absolutely received a refurb from an insurance claim though... It had a sticker on the back that plainly said refurb. One of my other friends had a phone that was no longer in production, so they replaced it with the next best, and it was new... (allot of my friends trash their phones obviously,...) So, again, it goes both ways. Based on availability i guess.

First of all, most likely it will be a refurbished phone, but it will work just the same and is guarenteed under warranty just like your original and it will be like new, free of scratches, etc. If they really don't have any refurbished units, though, they may send you a new one. Sometimes refurbished phones are new phones that maybe didn't make it through testing the first time for one reason or the other. You may get lucky, too, since there sending it from the factory it may have had the update loaded into it already. Supposedly, if you don't send back your other phone within 10 days they will charge $100 to your bill. Don't know if they would always follow-up on this or not, but possibly.

Had a phone shipped to me in July and was told that if I didnt have the old one back in the mail within 10 days then I would be billed the FULL retail price for the BROKEN phone. At the time that was $339. Needless to say that was in the mail that day. I'd advise you to do the same.

How about you just be happy that Verizon helps people in facilitating the warranty. They don't have to give you anything.

I worked at an electronics store that would send products out for warranty repair and get to deal with the jerks complaining about how long it takes. One guy kept calling until I got tired of his complaining and I told him I'd be happy to call and have them return it so he can send it Korea or where ever it was made to get fixed. I also let him know shipping isn't covered in the warranty either.

People don't realize that companies do go out of their way to help. You just seem to expect them to bend to your every wish and that's a bunch of crap.

True, since the issue is not your fault, it certainly does need rectified. But, Realize this... Unless you purchase an additional warranty from VZW, they are not obligated to do so, as they are not the ones warrantying the product. The warranty that you have is facilitated by the individual manufacturer that made your phone.
So,... It's up to you to call them, ship your phone to them, wait for it to be repaired and come back. That's the way it was Pre-2000.
By not making you go through all of that, spending the money on technicians and replacement phones,... They sort of already are bending over back wards for us.
I'm much happier with the new process.

From what I'm reading, Defective on Arrival actually refers to a timeframe. If you purchase a phone and it's malfunctioning or has a manufacturer's defect within 30 days of purchasing the phone.

As for the FRU, I'm pretty sure they clean them. I think they are reset to the manafacturer's or original settings and cleaned. Like removing makeup or whatever other gunk might be in there.

Since there could be health and safety concerns, I'm pretty sure they go through a full factory refurbishing process, not just a little "clean-up." That's why they come in a new "generic brown box," I think! 😛

Two things:

As some have mentioned before, the 15 days DO NOT start again when you switch phones.

You can only switch to a different phone model once. At least that's what a verizon rep told me. I don't know how knowledgeable they are, but they're the ones who will or wont let you do it.
