ITS NO DOUBGHT THAT WE ARE ALL SLAVES TO VERIZON. THEY DO HAVE GREAT SERVICE AND RECEPTON AND CDMA (CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS) IS SUPPERIOR TO GSM OR TDMA OR OTHERS.
BUT WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT IN THE END VERIZON CUSTOMERS PAY ON THE AVERAGE 15 TO 23% HIGHER

I would tend to agree with drynyks. I come to the forums in search for information. Not to see people's rants.
I have to use the search to find most anything useful as a result of lots of people just posting random crap. Not to mention that all caps is just dumb. You can't "yell" in text other than to add a ! at the end of the sentence.
This is nothing personal against gudgen. It's just an observation about forums and their general uses. They should be useful and somewhat organized tools for archiving information unless stated as being some public forum without a topic.
I'm only opinionated about this because I help run a few forums across the net and I have to deal with cleaning forums daily. 🙂

I think the "rant" was more legitimate phone conversation than all the bogus reviews I have discovered and pointed out in just a few days exploring this forum. This forum is filled with a bunch of kids it seems like that just want to see themselves fool others about the phones.

We are not slaves. We choose this. Thats whats great about freedom (though personally I dont know if random searches through New Yorks subways is totally freedom.
But back to cell phones, I have many friends without cell phones altogether. They are quite happy in their lives. no one is making us pay any money towards phones we arent willing to.
I personally will not at all pay for this Vcast service. 15 more dollars a month??!!

Why don't people spend half this effort trying to make changes that matter? Why not write one of these tirades to a congressman about the amount of taxes charges on wireless service? Or any real social issue? Do these same people complain about their employer trying to make money? Spend days on forums complaining about how their insurance premium went up $100/year?

I do the things you suggest above. I am involved in the Sierra Club and currently fighting a developer from developing some of the little bit of open land near where I live on terrain that isnt safe to build on anyway. Many things Im involved in that perhaps you would consider "real social issues".
But one can only do so much with their time.
I feel communication is a huge step in all this and that is what I had time to do about this issue brought up here on this forum. If my post gets one person to decide he wont pay for ringtones, or Vcast, or whatever, isnt that doing something?

Excellent post. This is the first post I have read on this forum that has motivated me to DO SOMETHING.
After reading that article by Jonathan Zdziarski at Nuclear Elephant, I am enraged at Verizon's attitude towards us hapless consumers and I feel that we ARE slaves to a certain extent. I feel cheated and there is no question that if we all just roll over and play dead on this they will continue to do it and it will get worse.
When I bought the V710 last summer I was excited to finally be able to have the best coverage with some of the best equipment on the market at that time. (Im not even gonna vouge (sp?) for the accuracy of that letter as I just found it and know nothing about it other than the text I read in it - but it was interesting)

Yeah, I remember those simpler days when multi-featured handheld devices were only seen in Sci-Fi flicks. Of course, technology doesn't improve without a price. Cell phones today are way more reliable than they were 5 years ago, at least servicewise.
