Voice Command and Traing Voice Recognition

palermo22

I shouldn't have opened my mouth before when I stated I just got my phone and reading the booklet many questions (that are posed on here)are answered in the book and CD-ROM. I have a pamplet included with the phone called "Quick Reference Guide" - but there seems to be no in-depth book on each facet of the phone. Did I miss it or is there not anything written on how to do voice command and training the phone to recognize your voice? If there isn't anything written (I am new to Verizon) - how do you use that part of the phone?

Thanks

Actually someone else asked the same question so I have found the proper response.

I would like to know if there is a short-cut key for letting the phone know you want to dial a number with voice recognition - or what is the quickest way to do that?

Yes, if your doing this without BLUETOOTH, you press the button on the side of the phone under the volume keys (it has a little microphone on it), but if your using a BLUETOOTH headset, then you would press the button on your headset.

Actually, you don't need to do this. The phone will recognize the name you are trying to call if you have it in your contacts or you can say "digit dial" and give a number that's not in your contacts. For instance:

If calling someone in your contacts, let's say BOB, you would say "call someone" and it will say "say a name" then you say "BOB" if you have more than one number for "BOB" it will say "call mobile?" and you say yes or no, and if no, it will go to the next number for BOB, like home, or whatever you have stored.

If you want to call a number not in your contacts you would say "digit dial" then it will ask you "what number" and you say the number.

On either one of these it will ask you to confirm your choice before it dials...

Mary (please excuse my ignorance but I am a first-time Verizon user and have had the phone for but a few hours):

I think you are saying - hit the button (below the volume button) - say "call someone" - then say "Bob", etc. and as long as Bob is in your contact list and you specify the number to be called (like home) - then that's all there is to it.

Is that right?

Yes , that's right. You can also say 'digit dial' and speak the phone number and it will dial it.

When it says "say a command" and you want to call "Mary" don't say "call Mary" instead say "call someone" then it will say "say a name" then say "Mary".

Train the phone to know your voice. Go to MENU, then to SETTINGS AND TOOLS. Select #1 TOOLS. Then select #8 VOICE COMMAND, then select #4 TRAIN WORDS.

I still preferred putting my own voice in there like the vx6000. This new recognition doesn't always pick up what I am saying.

The voice recognition was way better on the VX6000. I can't get the VX8100 to recognize my voice. It was better when you could program each number with a voice command. Like when it asked you "Name Please". you could say "Mary Home", "Mary Mobile" or "Mary Office" and it would dial the correct number every time. You just had to record the verbage for each number. Once done it was very easy to use voice dial. The VX8100 is a step backwards relying on the phone to recognize generic words. I'd rather program each number.
