Does anyone know if it's gonna be able to play mp3's as ringtones?

I have not found anything that suggests that but I am hoping that would be a feature. I would definitely use the MP3's as ringtones. Though I may not answer the phone if I like the song that is playing at the time... 🤣

Plus it would allow for more choices for ringtones for my friends.

Sadly, knowing Verizon they may block that feature cause people would spend less on the GET IT NOW service if they could make their own ringtones. I hope they don't block the MP3's as ringtones feature.

Have you read that anywhere?

I have searched thoroughly and have not seen it anywhere say whether you can or can't use the stored MP3's as ringtones. Not saying I doubt you but I would just like to see it somewhere.

The fact sheet from LG does not say for either way

we were talking about it a while back on hofo. You won't be able to use mp3's as ringtones for a while with verizon because of GIN. so none of the new phones are made with this ability. On another note, I am sure that somebody will be able to find a way around it 😁

hate to be the bearer of bad news but launch package i have doesn't even mention mp3's specifically. it mentions just uses the word "music" also it looks like the internal 512 got bumped also. it states 64MB flash/32MB SRAM. i'm not even sure what that means but it definitely isn't 512.

on the plus side, they did officially announce july 5th as the release date for the moto e815. i'm pretty confident that the releases will coincide. not to mention they're listing two year price on the e815 is stating 149.99! with a 50 MIR that pretty sweet. just hoping the 8100 will be in the same range.

enjoy yourselves!

We can hope against hope that the 8100 will need a software load to lock the miniSD a la the v710. I refuse to update my 710 s/w 'cause I don't have a bluetooth BMW so there's no sense in me using GIN until I need a new game. 😁

Well from reading what everyone wrote, it looks like it won't be able to have MP3 ringtones. Someone also said that the memory size will not be 512 MBs. It seems the the Motorola e815 will be a better choice so far since it will be able to have MP3 ring tones. The 8100 was something I wanted because it could do what the e815 could and had more memory and looked a little better too. What the hell is Verizon doing?

yeah I don't know if it will be setup to allow you to use the mp3's as ringtones but if you know what to do, any phone can have mp3s as there ringtone. I have mp3 tones on my VX3200

get yourself a data cable and download BitPim. but don't get the cable off Ebay that includes a disc full of ringtones. I've heard nothing but problems with it. I bought the Futuredial cable from Radioshack for the VX7000 (I think #19?) works great!

you make the changes through BitPim. If you to I believe it's Howardsforums.com they have instructions on how to use bitpim with the 3200.

So how did you do it? How can I set an mp3, mid, or qcd as a ringtone on my 8100?

Also, do you perhaps know how to send an mp3, mid, qcd as an accompaniment to a pix?

if you cant set your mp3's as ringtones why even have a mp3 player? Are you really going to use it instead of a ipod? Will you really waste the battery power listening to mp3's on your phone? If this is true then the Moto 815 is my clear choice now.

anything you "do" on your phone uses battery life. i wouldn't use the term "waste" i agree that there isn't much market for people to use it as a replacement for their ipod... yet. a lot of people are trying to combine devices at this point. pda style phones like treo's, blackberry's, and pocket pc's are really starting to catch on because people don't want to carry a pda and a phone. i'm not sure if that will carry over to mp3 players though. people love their ipod's.

but seriously, that inability to use them as rightones is a pain.

did anyone consider the option built into phones as being a HUGE perk for runners! instead of having to carry the mp3 player and not bringing a phone for safetey you can do it all in one. Listen to your mp3's and have a phone if u should need it!!

mp3 ringtones should be a def but verizon would loose money on it i think...

why give people something free when they're already paying for it??? a few years ago people were saying the whole wireless industry was going to tank just like the dot coms. part of the reason they didn't is because they found tons of other ways to make money besides just phone calls. txt, pix, downloads and such. make no mistake, verizon is a business and they are here to make money.
