Please stop me before I do something stupid!

Greetings. Although I have lurked here ever since the snippet on the LG 8100 appeared in Popular Science, this is my first post.
Sad as this is for me to admit, I am drooling over the 8100. But after reading through the posts, I am about to give up hope that Verizon ever will carry it! The phone that first made me want a new one is the Nokia 6255. But after my son (a Cingular subscriber 🤭 only because Verizon has weak service in the area in which he attends school) bought an LG, I started considering one myself. Then came and PS article, and . . . .
Anyway, someone on eBay is offering an unlocked 6255 that supposedly will work for Verizon.
I hope this site will function as a support group for me and it...

I am a VZW rep and consumer waiting for the 8100 to come out we have not received any info on the release of the phone. The way I see it though, this phone will have to last for a year or two and I might as well wait instead of getting a phone I don't like as much.

Just to show how desperate I am, I'll admit to the phone I am using now: a Nokia 3589i 🤭 🤭 In a new phone, I really want a camera, Bluetooth, and the MP3 player, which both the Nokia 6255 and the LG 8100 offer. The Nokia, if it would work, would be the bird in the hand; the LG--well, as far as I can discern, has yet to alight on the Verizon bush!

yah if you just get another phone you will regret it. Especially if it does come out on the 5th. You will hear all of us talking about how great the phone is and you won't remember why it is you couldn't have a waited a few more weeks. Don't do that to yourself 😁

Oh, B3G3--Walt Whitman! I am impressed!
But I think you reference lilac bushes, not alighting on bushes!
The Good Gray Poet with a cell phone--hmmm, that's an interesting image 😎 🤣

He wouldn have a ringtone his phone would be on vibrate. So he wouldn't be jolted from his reverie and lose his whole train of thought.

It doesn't matter what they say, a supposedly unlocked phone from another carrier still wouldn't be able to be activated on the Verizon network unless it is a Sprint or Alltel. It basically has to be CDMA technology. Even then it is not advised due the the fact that you wouldn't have a warranty, no option for insurance, and the roaming indicators would not be accurate. You will be much happier if you hold on a little younger for the 8100.

Has no one else had problems with previous motorola phones? i had a cheaper model 2 years ago and what a piece of crap! My friend currentl has a more expensive model for cingular and is on his 3rd phone=another piece! The phones were never abused either! i've fallen in love with samsung's e715 and never had an LG but i hear mixed reviews about them!

any clarifications or suggestions...

thanks!

Well....I don't think it was reeeally stupid cause I really don't need something as fancy-shmancy as the 8100. Today I finally said screw it and ended up getting the 4650. I think I'm really gonna like it. I like the drive mode....how you can enter new contacts almost totally by voice (I even like the annoying "alien-sounding-foreign" man voice that reads the name back to you!). I think the speakerphone is really nice as well.

Well....I'll let yall get back to your 8100 droooooling! (Even if it does come out on the 5th...I'll be able to take this one back since I'll be within 15 days! 😁 !)

I think that's fine if you got that phone as long as your happy. That phone just has alot less features. But as long as it suits your needs that isn't a big deal. What I was warning you about was not to get the "unlocked" Nokia. I'm glad you didn't do that.

Did you get the PTT with this phone as well? i'm not aware of many people having it with verizon and i knew this phone had that feature so i wasnt sure if it was worth buying if i didnt plan to use that feature....

thanks

This phone looks like the ptt phone but it does not have it. If you do buy a ptt phone, you do have to have the ptt price plan if you buy a ptt phone. They are 10.00 more per month.

No...this one (4650) doesn't have the PTT. I really wouldn't use it so this is perfect cause I reeeally like the way the speakerphone faces you (lots of them come out the back side)

I don't think I can get a desk charger for this one and that has me pretty bummed....seems they are getting away from those....why oh why!

(verizongirl....that was someone else with the nokia...I just jumped in on this thread cause I was basically in the same boat....waiting for the 8100 and all!)
