My contract with Verizon is almost up and being that both phones will be offered by Verizon Wireless and most likely be coming out at the same time, I'm trying to decide which i should get. Both are very similar, so I'm wondering if anyone can help me decide.

me personally im leaning toward the vx8100. i had motorola before and known people with it and they have to many problems. All the LG's i had gave me fewer problems, didnt have any real software issues.

But everyone has different expieriences with each brand.

Currently have VX7000 and love.

Moto is a good brand but their software tends to be buggier than LG's. I would go with the LG and bet that you would be happier and less likely to experience problems.

I have the 710 and i really like the 3 minute video capibility vs. just 15 seconds with the lg. i have had tons of problems with the moto(i've had 4) so honstly if the lg could take longer vids i'd go for it instead because they do seem to be more reliable

Hello, I too was thinking about the two phones. However, I write on technology for a television network. I just read a message I received from Verizon public relations. They informed me that is is going to be,... long time before the E815 gets released to the general public through Verizon Wireless, as it will first be released to our corporate accounts, and some time later, released to the public"!

I interpret this as don't hold your breath for that E815. I hope this helps anyone anxiously awaiting the arrival of this phone, as it is not around the corner. I may just have to go with the V710 myself or the new LG-VX8100 instead!

I'm wondering the same thing. I've only had a V60 on AT&T and had lousey service where I live, but loved the phone as far as design and dependability. But my daughter-in-law's old Nokia phone had better reception. My two LG VX4600's I have now had terrible reception until Verizon sent us two refurished ones and now they work great. The VX8100 looks fantastic, as does the E815...many people claim the V710 had the best reception of any phone (but some design flaws) and this should carry into the E815 and they made improvements to correct the flaws. I just wonder about the VX8100's reception...which is the most important thing to me.

THe only time that I have problems with LG's reception was when my firmware was so outdated that it took literally 30 seconds or more to connect to a tower. But that was when I had T45VZV01 and the update that they gave me was T45VZV04, three updates later. That was on a VX-4500. That is my experience with LG and I wouldn't think to go any other way.

Honestly this is a NO BRAINER in my opinion.
Ive had the VX7000 and loved and i wish i would have never gotten rid of it. I now have the V710 from Motorola and i dont like a fraction as much as i do the 7000. Now here's my reasoning why

1)The VX8100 is going to have 512 mb internal memory for MP3, picture, messaging, and any other files that may be helpful to you. The E815 is going to have only 64mb that you cant even transfer MP3 songs to.

2)The 8100 is also going to have a SD slot which is alot easier to deal with as apposed to the Transflash card that i now have. The card is as small as my pinky nail and very easily gets lost. The SD card is universal, and you can get up to 2 GB on an SD card not just 256 TF.

3)All digital -...

Just my thoughts: I do worry about reliability, although my early V60 was built great, I know some since seemed alittle "cheap". All of the MP3 and ringtone stuff is nice, but I am more concerned with Reception & Clarity, which they say the V710 is tops and the E815 will continue. According to the specs I read the V710 ws tri-mode, but the E815 is all digital...lando19, how do you rate the V710 for bringing in weak calls and clarity?

The v710 is a very relianble phone as far as keeping service but anything that you get with a big color screen and any added features you lose signal strength. There is not a phone like the old bag phones anymore, although in wyoming we still actuvate them on a daily basis!! 🤣 With the E815 you are adding even more features and you are going to lose signal strength. Go pure digital and use it to your advantage. The phones of yesteryear are gone and we live in the future, be ready for all digital and no more service because were living in an age of games and tv and were gonna get it on our phones 😁

Thanks for your report...I had heard where 1/2006 the system will go all digital. How will people in remote areas, like yourself, get a signal? Verizon told me that they cannot afford to replace the Analog towers with digital for years down the road. There are going to be a lot of PO'd users!

The v710 and e815 use the transflash, which has been renamed to microSD. The vx8100 uses the slightly bigger miniSD. (Micro is smaller than mini.)

Someone asked about v710 clarity earlier. I found the v710's sound quality to be ok. There was a bit of noise (from the earpiece), more so than I noticed on the vx7000. I tried another v710 and the v265, and while it was a little better, it was still noticable to me. It was still not bad sounding, just not great. Note that I'm referring to the sound quality, not the reception, which appeared to be very good.

i recently saw a new moto phone (cant remember which one) and it had the LG 7000 menu screen and i asked the moto rep about it and he said verizon really liked the menu set up and all verizon phones will be coming out with that kind of main screen. since he was a moto rep, he wasnt to keen on the idea but he didnt really have a choice on the matter. but it was kind of weird to see a motorola with an LG main screen.

Best thing to do is buy 'em and try 'em. Verizon has a 15 day return policy.
😈

After all I returned the LG VX8000 when I read about the VX8100. So now I'm waiting...and waiting .....and waiting.... damn Verizon.

unless you want a ton of software glitches and chargers that break on a regular basis. Not to mention confusing menus and shotty color screens that will probably (based on V710 and V265 problems) stop working.

I'm not sure where you got the information about the LCD screens going out but thats not true. On the other hand i do agree with confusing menues and software glitches.
Let me play devils advocate....ANY PHONE has software problems when it first comes out, its just a matter of what you have and how much you are willing to put up with it. 😁

I notice this thread is pro LG but honestly look at LG's recent record with the major software failures in the 4500 when it first came out and the the issues with the 6100 came out... now as we all know with moto's you can always expect some glitchs but never with reception and thats what means the most to me... and also motorola ALWAYS have software updates available with in months of its release then another thing compare the 8000 voice command features to the 710 the 710 wins hands down and the e815 voice command is even batter... and as for menus I guess the people posted haven't used motos... its the best part a moto phone allows you to assign what you want to every button and its up to you to make the menu the way you feel comfortable...

Why do you say you won't be able to make your own ringtones for the 8100? You can on the 6100, 7000, and I think 8000.

Plus a regular mp3 would make a terrible ringtone. I optimize any file I send to my phone for ringtone use. Compress the audio, high pass filters, re-equalization, amplification.

what I mean is what happened to the V710 and I believe the 8940 has a block in placed from being able to take a Mp3 file from your memory card and copying into the internal memory and using it as a ringer....there will be ways around it I'm sure I'm just stating that vzw will make it hard to get free ringers.. like they always do

plus sending as a txt is still $.25 so its still not free
