There are three camps out there....those that are fanatical about the 8100, fanatical about about the 815 and the last camp is the one that hates them both.

I owned the 8100 for about 18 days and exchanged it for the E815 and have had absolutely no problems with the Motorola. I noticed the volume was much clearer on the 815, it connects up to the bluetooth headset faster when you initate a call, no dropped calls (I didn't have any with the 8100 either), can send mp3 clips to the Motorola through vtext and save/ assign them as ringtones.

I do know the 8100 had a patch issued all ready but I don't what issues it fixed so perhaps somebody could give you some more current information on the 8100.

I personally don't own either phone. The new software update that is slolwly making its way through the country fixes the volume bug when on a call, gives you the option to have the coloful lights on or off when reciving a call and most importantly it releases the MP3 player on the phone.

The Motorola has better battery life but the LG connects to VCast quicker apparently. I am personally torn between the two phones when my NE2 comes up shortly.

I heard now that the LG VX5200 was released the 8100 is going to be $99 on a 2 yr contract after a $50 rebate. This now puts it at the same price at the Motorola.

As you can see I am pretty neutral between the phones. Every phone that has ever come out has pros as well as cons.

The v04 update you refer to does NOT fix the fluctuating volume problem. I can attest to this because I had the software flashed today and the problem remains.

I first owned the 8100 for one week and then exchanged it for the e815. I exchanged the phone for another e815 (about one month now) and have been happy ever since. I have not used the bluetooth or mp3 features. I am happy with the build, reception, menus, speakerphone, and camera/video options.

My biggest concern with the 8100 was reception in Denver. On top of that of course I had the volume problem and significant echo issues when on speakerphone. I would not know if this was taken care of with the patch.

My first e815 had too much echo on the speakerphone and the second one has a rare echo on the speakerphone. The reception on the e815 was noticeably better and that was most important to me. The 8100 was nicer looking etc but ...

I've always been an LG fan over Motorola's until the 8000 came out, I had the phone replaced 3 times, swapped it out for the 8100 and started noticing problems into my 3rd week of owning it, most notable was the static on the bluetooth headset (silly colored lights when it rang, people can see when you are taking a picture on the outside display, low volume, bad reception, phone kept locking up when playing Vcast, can't download your own ringtones were the other issues). I swapped to the E815 have been very happy with the phone. I'm happy to the point that if get another phone, I'm going to add a line and split my minutes between this one and the new one.
