Verizon is closing the free national access hole

not good. I spoke with tech, and they said it was a hole that is being fixed with each new phone. This guy could be just a plebe, but he seemed to be pretty sure about what he was saying. He went as far to suggest that I put my 710 on a family plan to continue to DUN (dial up 1x networking). Any input would be great.

PS. The vx8100 will be the same way. It's not the phone problem it is verizon.

What are you even saying man. What the hell is the free national access hole. From what i hear you can enable DUN if you go in abd change lines or somthing like that. I read it on Howardfourms. I could be wrong though.

OK, it was explained to me like this.

Verizon gave you access to the nation access portion of the network to allow you to send pictures. When they did this, it allowed 1X data access for dialup. The tech told me they knew this, and the new phones would close that hole. So, if I am wrong, so be it. I am going by what the broadband dept told me.

they're deliberately disabling DUN, they don't want anyone using DUN on their network. That's all. If and when they make it avaliable, they'll charge a boatload for it, just like everything else. They're looking to scam you out of your money, and things that others wouldn't even think of charging you for, they're looking for ways to FORCE you to pay them. Is that clear enough?

In other words, don't expect to use your phone as anything other than a phone with verizon from now on, unless you pay significantly for that "priviledge"

when you got a camera phone... they gave you access to the "national access network" 1X. Now that gave you the free xxx-xxx-xxxx@vzw3g.com access.

Now they said (key word, they said) that was a hole that was closed. They now want you to buy access for 79.99 per month.

Christ, am I speaking another language?

😳 😲 ☹️ 😡 👿 .....

That was my thought when I saw that figure. You've got to be frigging kidding me. Seriously, they expect you to pay $79.99 PER MONTH for their broadband access??? Not a CHANCE Anyone will be using that. Does that even cover DUN usage, or is that still more? Do they even Realize that it is no faster than DSL, which is more like $20 per month? And on crippled browsers, without half of the normal conveniences computers provide?

....Verizon has got to be out of their mind. I used to think they were pretty cool, they're still the best carrier, but seriously. That's beyond lame.

best carrier? as far as reception, that i will give them, customer sevice is cool when you are speaking with them, but taking care of customers, they are up there with cingular, honestly my .02 if AT&T would have built their GSM service form the beginning instead of going with TDMA(morons) AT&T would be on top right now, with the best service and customer care, and phones

AT&T was formed in 1994. Pretty sure there wasn't any GSM around then.

The EVDO data service isn't for people at home all the time. It's designed to be used with laptops and EVDO smartphones.

Oh, and yes, there are TONS of people signing up for it. People pay the 79.99 for Broadband Access even if they don't live in an area that has it because they travel into the area.

Too bad you have no idea what you're talking about, V-Cast is a great service.
