Is anyone having problems setting a Picture to a caller ID or setting an mp3 as a ringtone with this phone for Verizon?
...
i'm also having problems with the picture ID. anyone find the solution to this problem. I dont see any reason why verizon would disable that feature.
...
I have been on hold with Nokia for over 40 minutes now trying to get answers to the problem of MP3's and MIDI's as ringtones, using custom ringtones for contacts, and using pictures for caller ID.
I spoke to one person after 35 minutes and am on hold again with an expected wait time of 20 minutes.
I will post these answers once I get them.

According to Nokia setting pictures with a caller ID should work. I did it on mine no problem.
Ringtones, however are another issue.
Some created ringtones will work as general ringtones as they don't use digital rights management which is imbedded in the tone.
You can not use a ringtone you created or copied with a contact (Verizon customers). You must buy the ringtones from Verizon. When you buy them you obviously pay for them, then pay to receive the call with them - they are then placed in the directory on your phone where you can set them as a custom tone for a contact.
Unless you buy ringtones the only tones you can use with contacts are those that come with the phone.
The phone itself will support these features ...

Can you point me to the place in the manual or write down the steps you used to get the picture to come up with the Caller ID from your contact?
I can link the picture to the contact, no problem, but have been through the phone and manual twice trying to find the setting that gets the picture to display when that contact calls you.
Thanks!
...
I can't. I placed a picture with a contact, but as you say, the picture won't come up when the contact calls me.
According to the Nokia people that should happen, but it doesn't.
Perhaps this is another Verizon modification?

Contacts -> Settings -> Scrolling View [Name and image]
Did you make that settings adjustment?
...
Yes. Tried that setting, still no picture when called by a contact.

Google "HOWARD FORUMS" Go to the Verizon Forum,Search under Verizon Phones for the Nokia Sub-Forum.Owners of the 6236i will find how to re-enable Picture Caller ID.Picture Caller ID will work after you disable the "VERIZON WIRELESS" banner. There is no menu setting to accomplish this on the phone itself.

Hello experiment626 !!! I could not find the Nokia banner thing in Howard forums!! Can you please write a link to it, thank you!!!
...
Sorry about that. It's listed under the "Does Anyone Know How To Take The Verizon Banners Off The Nokia 6256i?"Thread in the Nokia Sub-Forum of Verizon's Phone Discussion.Software wise the 6256i and the 6236i are almost identical. The same procedure is used for both phones. Also check out the "Nokia 6256i display caller photo when ringing?" Thread. Both phones are mentioned in both these Threads.

I have a question, do you personally own Nokia 6236i? If so how do you like it so far? Thank you!
...
I have the 6256i. I tried the 36' cause I prefer bar-style phones over flips but in the end I felt I was giving up too many features.I really liked the 6236i but not having the MMC card slot and only 10mb on the phone really limited me.I also wanted the AMPS option for roaming. However if you don't plan on storing alot on your phone then you'll really enjoy the Nokia quality. It is a well designed phone.I've gotten used to my 6256i "clamshell" and love the features and options(w/1GB card)I have with it.

I am very interested in seeing how I can do this. I have gotten ring tones unlocked. I am not able to find this thread on Howard Forums. Anyone have the instructions?
Thanks

The first Thread at the top of the Nokia Sub-Forum in the Verizon Wireless Forum of HOWARD FORUMS.com will explain everything conserning DIEGO. Everything(custom ringtones, picture ID,removing or customizing banners,etc..)is dependent on finding, installing and using the Nokia Diego program.Need DIEGO and a DKU-2 cable(cheap on Ebay)to make the changes. The trickest part is installing DIEGO,using it to make the changes you want is simple.
...
I've installed DIEGO and tweeked my phone. It's great, I go through ALLTEL, so I didn't have to deal with enabling ringtones, but I was able to change my shortcut keys (when ever I moved my toggle down it went to the web browser, talk about stupid. So I changed it so that when I press down it goes right to my contacts). DIEGO is a sweet little program, but I still use Nokia's software for lots of stuff.
...
I was hoping since you have diego you could help me out.... is there anyway you could send me the program....I'd pay for it ect. I just don't have time to post 20 some odd post to get the link, but I really want my phone to work.. can you help me please??
...
So basically if you dont download diego you cant have picture caller id, that is just really stupid and im very mad about it.
does any one know a way to get pic with out using diego.
thanks

Oh boy...I bought this phone yesterday at full retail price. My contract has yet another year, but my E815 was just too big and I wanted something smaller. I've read all your posts regarding Picture Caller ID problems. I've been to Verizon four times and have called Nokia twice on this subject. Nokia tells me that this phone does have Picture Caller ID and walked me through it. Didn't work. Verizon tried but could just get a picture next to my contact name in Contacts. I have read the book and don't see anywhere that it supports Picture Caller ID. Called Verizon Tech again (800#) and was told Verizon disabled this and MP3s. Verizon (store Tech. and Radio Shack said that it's not possible to disable a phone function. Either Nokia does...

Well, went this morning to Verizon AGAIN. Tech. couldn't even work the joy stick. Had another tech. work on it. I even talked to Nokia again to see what other carriers have this phone. Verizon is the only one. Verizon was clueless how to use it. I had to show them. They said they haven't sold many of these phones and aren't fans of Nokia. I told them they had better tell anyone that MIGHT purchase it that the Picture Caller ID is disabled. Yes, Verizon did disable this function. Said their service is to provide the best phone useage and not the "extras". Apparently there's an issue when the Picture Caller ID is enabled. They offered me $25 off the cost if I keep it for my trouble. Tech. tried the Diego (Nokia's program) and co...

Anybody have any trouble getting the name of the contact to come up when a call comes in?
Some of my contacts, husband (work and cell phone), my home phone just comes up with the number and not the name. So back to Verizon I went. They are puzzled. Even gave me another 6236i phone. What is going on with this? I gave up the Picture with the caller ID because Verizon disabled that and now I can't even get all my contact names even though they are in my contact list. I have until May 4 to decide to keep this phone or not. Verizon coouldn't get their computers to get into Diego to try and fix it. Nokia said they only use PC (?) program for their phones
and that's the only program that will work.
Any suggestions?
...
Good luck!! you can fix this but it takes some a whole lot of reading...you need to get a program called diego, and you have to change it in the phones software. I set up my 6236i to do all kinds of neat things like use mp3's for my ring tone, got rid of that annoying verizon banner and got my pic id to work. you can find all the info you need at www.xphilez.com you need to put in your time though!!

I checked out your site. I've never done anything like this, but have read several instructions which I still don't understand,
I wish I had the knowledge to do this, but would be hard for me. I'll probably stick to my Motorola v325 which I exchanged the Nokia for. I love the size of the Nokia, but would be afraid I would ruin it if I tried it.
I read soneplace too that the picture caller ID is quite snall. I was thinking it would cover the size of the window. How big is the picture?
Thank you so nuch for your reply. Appreciate it.
...
The pic id is quite small. But I got it to work just because I don't like the fact that it is advertised as having these functions and Verizon turns them off!! And as far as the verizon banner across the screen whats the purpose? Also the phone is advertised as being able to use mp3's as ringtones....you guessed it Verizon turned that off also!! but it's all good now!! using the software isn't that difficult you just have to read ALOT!!
Good luck!

Thanks for letting me know about the size of the pic. Verizon said it was size of screen.
I'm with you, I would use it too because it's a function on the phone. Guess I'll keep the Motorola v325 for the Navigation feature. Verizon showed me how it works, and it's great. I get lost very easily. I like the size of the Nokia better, but the Motorola has more functions that I like, and I could never
understand how to fix the picturer caller ID.
Glad you could!
