Two questions: Crippled by Verizon? Analog or not?

Two questions that I consider make-or-break:

1. Analog areas. Some posts have indicated that these phones have no AMPS. Does that mean it won't work where Verizon has only analog service, or analog roaming? (E.g. as of spring 2005, at least, that included parts of Vermont.) Specs at nokiausa.com do indicate "800/1900 MHz CDMA plus AMPS band" but that's the 6235i. I don't see specs there for the 6236i (by the way, what's the difference?)

2. Verizon crippling. Some posts here say that Verizon has crippled this phone.

a) Can I buy one that will work just as well with VZW, but isn't crippled?

b) Are there ways to get around the crippling? For example, user reviews for the Motorola E815 (which apparently is not analog, or I'd be buyi...
