Is there a way to see the outside screen w/o opening and closing?

I have recently upgraded to this Samsung P207 and have been pretty pleased with it. I was just wondering if I didn't have the right setting on or something, because all the other phones I know that have the screen on the outside you can push a side button to see the clock. If anyone can help me if this is possible I would appreciate it. All around I do like this phone and have recieved compliments.
