I've heard that you can upgrade your phone if you had your contract and phone with you for a year. Well it's been a year and I'm damn tired of the Sony Ericsson T226.

Buuuut, I went to one of those Cingular stores and they say I have to wait until October until I can upgrade with a discount. The heck? It would be about 1 year and 6 months sometime this May. They said you had to wait for 21 months until you can upgrade (with some sort of discount)

pleeease tell me that they're wrong! Cause this phone looks really spiffy and I don't nescessarily want to pay full price on it.

I am pretty sure you can upgrade as long as you jump into a 2 year agreement.

I thought that after a year that you get a phone at the price for a 1-year contract. Plus an 18 dollar upgrade fee.

According to the upgrade protocol. Customer's paying 30-60 bucks/month MUST fulfill 21 months of a 24 month contract in order to upgrade. Customer's with a high ARPU (70 bucks/month or higher) MAY be allowed to upgrade earlier...

I here it from Customer Service Reps all the time, and a while back, I was taking a course on Cingular University on the upgrade protocol, and it stated like that. The only thing I'm sure of in my statement was the exact prices when it comes to ARPU. It's possible that it has changed since I last looked into it, but that's what I have been told.

Here's the actual quote from the document...

For retention (Save) purposes, 2-year commitment customers may upgrade prior to 3 months of completion of their contract if they have completed at least 12 months since their last upgrade AND have a 3-month ARPU (includes price plans, features and airtime) of $75.00 or higher (does not include roaming).

i use both, one for me, one for work (i work in a cing store) i use the moto for work, because of the bluetooth and cingular loves moto(their brand for employee phones)

i use the 207 for personal because of the voice text and the crisp camera. it also has great signal strength.

I actually was just looking in to upgrading my phone myself and logged in to my account online to check my upgrade status. The way I understand it, is that if you sign in to a two year agreement online you get the price quoted on the Cingular website along with an $18 fee. If anyone knows of a better way to cheat the system I would love to hear it, I don't exactly want to sign a two year agreement.

The only way i have ever seen CUSTOMER SERVICE allow an early upgrade beyond the 11mos in a 1yr and 21mos in a 2year is to: Sign a 2yr contract w/a one year price. Thats the ONLY time i have ever seen em do that. Thats even with a ARPU of $75 or higher per month.

I actually have upgraded my phone twice, and both times i had to wait until I was 21 months into my 2 year contract to get the "upgrade price." This is still not as cheap as the "new plan" price, so your better off waiting the extra 3 months. But be aware that toward the end of your contract Cingular might try to give you extra offers. The day my contract expired, they mailed me an upgrade paper to receive special prices on phones. I got two v551's for free and two $40 bill credits on two v220's. At the time, the V551 went for about $120 each with a plan, and the V220's were about $70 each; so going through this i saved about $400.

Currently, the phone is only available online with no intention of it hitting stores anytime soon. You cannot upgrade to this phone by paying a one-year contract price in exchange for a two year agreement. Resellers haven't been able to get the device yet, either. I would say that if you cannot get it anywhere else, $80 is a good price if you want it, and it's a great alternative to the Moto V551 (which, incidentally, has become a sort of festering can of worms), or the Samsung e317 which is aging, but still a decent phone. I don't know why some of you are having trouble upgrading....it is possible if you made a rate plan change at a retail store or reseller, you were perhaps recontracted without your knowledge. I was a Cingular custome...

you will first have to migrate, or port over to Cingular as SIM cards and devices are not interchangeable between ATT and Cingular. If you are having problems ordering over the internet on Cingular's website, call the OMC (Orders Mgmt Center) at 866-391-0749. No matter WHAT they tell you they MUST honor the online price if the website is giving you trouble. If you get any crap, call customer service with the name of the representative who refused to honor the price. The website has issues and we are all aware of that. Customer Service CANNOT order you a handset at the online price, but here is how to get around the OMC's automated thing...when asked for your last 4 enter anything, then enter all 9's when it asks for your web order #, when...
