Exterior backlight contantly stays on.. NOT during charging

I often reach into my purse to check the time on my phone and find the exterior backlight has been on for who-knows how long, and my battery is almost dead. The only thing I can do to make it shut off is restart the phone, which only temporarily fixes the problem. I think it would stay on for the rest of my life if the battery didn't die first. And no, I don't have the backlight set for more than 8 seconds, so how is this happening? I sent it for repairs because of the hassle of charging my battery every night, and my battery was put in the loaner phone with no exterior display, and surprise surprise, my battery lasted 4-5 days at a time. Because my phone only does it at random times, my phone just HAD to behave while in the shop, and as soo...
