GSM / Cingular 650

Hi,

I spoke this morning with my local Cingular store rep. He told me that he had received word the GSM Cingular version 650 has been temporarily put on hold till at least March, due to some problems in testing.
I then called Cingular sales directly. I spoke with a woman who confirmed this. She said she got an e-mail this morning saying they had problems with the device dropping calls, so they pulled them back in to work on the problem some more. She was told it would be at least May before they would be available.
Well, maybe it's time for a trip to my Sprint store. ☹️

Doug,

That's interesting. What state are you in?

I picked up a new phone this past Saturday night and have spoken with the dealer since to learn that he now has 2-4 more in stock.

The phone I purchased looks brand new, is in finished packaging, sealed with many accessories and all manuals included.

There is nothing in either the packaging, on the phone or in the phone menus (that I can find) that indicates this is a test/pre-release phone.

I don't doubt your word but my experience has been different. Reps at other corporate stores in my area (chicago) are still quoting 1/20 as a target release date as of yesterday.

Arggghhh! Not to be rude but I am glad I got one. I might be sorry later though if I find it is buggy. ...

I do not want to sound rude but STOP messing with our minds!!!!...I am going insane!!!! DO NOT TELL US that you have a brand new treo 650 GSM, if you don’t have it!!! (Do not take me wrong If you have I am glad for you but Stop messing with our minds) We are all "Cell Nuts" and would like to have a new Treo 650 GSM. I spoke to PalmOne and they do not know anything about a "Testing market" or "Testing Area". Please tell us the truth or the phone number to call this alleges stores. I would pay good money to have my own NOW!!! + I Hill not write privately with anyone to tell me the number of the store with the Treo 650 GSM.

😁 Hello,

I went to the Palm One Store at the mall and i was immediately won over by the Palm 650, I admit to being a cell phone junkie, but alas i was put off initially by the 650 due to its size. Needless to say, after seeing the phone and going through all the different functions i wanted to have it right then and there. Unfortunately I , like numerous others on this board have to wait for the GSM version of this phone to be released. When i spoke to the palm one rep he indicated that it would be a couple of weeks for the phone to be released for Cingular. I am hearing though that some people already have the phone is it possible for anyone to forward me the # of the dealers who are selling the phones so I can get one i would greatly a...

"Furn Mart" Look it up. Kiosk. I walked in when a company rep was there and he gave me one to evaluate. I promised him some "favors" for one. 🤭

mobilephonejunkie8 -

you seem to have a pretty good handle on inside release information. if you get a break from playing with your new toy, the rest of are still sitting on our hands and fidgeting madly about these... would you mind posting a review here in the forums and/or any additional release-date info you can dig up? (it's past the 20th, and while i know that cingular [and everyone else, really] is notorious for missing release dates these days, i'm still hoping to be able to get ahold of one sometime in february.)

thanks!

I've had my GSM 650 for a week now. Got it from a Nebraska company store. They had like 3 or 4. The sales rep there they were a secret test market. He has had them on display for about 2 weeks and no one has even enquired about it.

Would you let us know the name (and ph#) of the dealer so maybe some of us could contact him directly? If the units are just sitting on his shelf, I'm sure he'd like to sell them! 😁 Feel free to send me a private message if you're worried about putting the guy's ph# on the board.

Well, now I'm confused. I live in Idaho, and my local Cingular/ATT store has been telling me Jan 20th for the last three weeks or so. We did not have cingular out here until the merger with AT&T. Wonder if that has to do with it. But now I think maybe I got incorrect information. MissSandy, you say your market is a test market? Wonder if thats the deal then. mobilephonejunkie8, is chicago a test market as well?
Do both of your phones work ok? I'm curious now. Thanks for the info.

Doug
