Settings for AOL/AIM for Treo 650

All you need to do for AIM mail is to change the AOL to AIM in the following settings.


Incoming Mail Settings**:
Incoming e-mail uses an IMAP server so please verify that your e-mail application on the handset supports the IMAP protocol. You will need to choose between:

Standard Mail Settings:
Server: imap.aol.com
Port: 143

OR


Encrypted or SSL Mail:
Server: imap.aol.com
Port: 993

Outgoing Mail Settings:
Outgoing e-mail uses an SMTP server and requires authentication, which means in order to send e-mail you must log into the SMTP server with a user name and password. The user name and password are the same as your AOL® screen name and password. You will need to choose between:

You don't need to do all this. Simply use the messaging feature on the treo. You pay either way, by message or data regardless of which way you chose to use IM

This isn't for instant messaging. It is the settings to get your AOL or AIM mail on your Treo.

There's tons of instant messaging programs out there for the Treo, such as Toccer, IM+, Mundu, Verichat, etc.
